Yup. The squib from today's Recorder (haven't seen print edition yet):
Sonsini Takes a Pass on NYSE Job
The Recorder
For two hours Wednesday evening, Larry Sonsini's top lieutenants sat cloistered in his Palo Alto office, strategizing over one of the biggest deals of Sonsini's long career: whether he should take the helm of the New York Stock Exchange. Clearly, heading the exchange -- even on an interim basis -- would be a prestigious capstone on an already celebrated legal career. But by the end of the meeting with his partners, Sonsini had decided to say no.

Heller Ehrman is apparently offering its associates a bonus to bring in mid-level laterals, so they must really need people.

Is there anyone out there that's taken the time to go through Brass Ring and figure out who they're looking to hire? Idle curiousity doesn't justify the cookies.
edit - eek! typos!

On topic- Cooley
Can anyone give me information on the current status of the health of this firm, especially its corp and securities group? I am especially interested in the SD and SF offices. Also, please throw in any info on QOL, job security, for people who are three to five years in. Also, are people nice (ha ha).
Thank you.

I interviewed at a big firm in SD that had recently hired a bunch of Cooley people. One of the guys with which I had lunch had just joined from Cooley within the past few months and he said Cooley SD was dying fast. When we left lunch, he saw a current Cooley corp. partner talkng with a bunch of non-Cooley partners and said "Another one jumping ship."
On the positive side, I've heard nothing but good things about people in Cooley's PA corp and lit groups ("good things" being relative to the BigLaw experience.)

Don't PM -- post it here for all to read and savor, please.
I've always heard that Cooley has good QOL, but I'm not sure where I got that idea. There was a secretary I know who went there, and when I see em since em's always got that extra bounch in em's step.

Farella
A little bird tells me that Farella just let a bunch of administrative people go.

For those who don't read the Big Board
I posted the following on it this morning:
I logged on this morning to a PM which contained some links to infirmation.
The PM referred to the following posts on the SF Board numbered:
26161
26162
26163
26165
It would seem, according to these posts that someone deleted some posts about Carr & Ferrell LLP. The last post informs them that dammit they aren't going to take it any more and they are going to create a new board where there is no censorship.
Apparently we should advertise more.
Regardless, if our friends should need a place they are, of course, welcome here. And to do them a favor, I will summarize the gist of the posts over on the SF Board. Not that I am suggesting that the present posts which I number above will disappear. But you know, just in case there is some sort of technological glitch or something.
Go here for my original post (I originally put it on Fashion but I moved it to the Big Board) http://www.lawtalkers.com/forums/sho...5933#post35933

Post 26161 notes that a discussion on the firm Carr and Farrell seems to have been deleted. It was posted around 4:30 in the afternoon.
Post 26162 also refers to the deletion. It offers that Carr and Ferrell is rumored to be having problems of late, "the postings were not kind" and the poster believes that one of the Partners had something to do with the deletion of the posts.
Post 26163 explains the posts that have disappeared. Em notes that the "thrust" was that there is a poor quality of life at the firm.
Em also offers an explanation, em's opinion of course, for the deletions: "My understanding is that number of firms have told the the corporate owners of Findlaw that they will not advertise on it etc., so long as negative things about their firms appear on these boards. The disapearance of the C&F thread is obviously some corporate censorship. "
Post 26165 is the one to which I refer in my last post. It expresses some dismay and thought about creating a new board. This was posted at 11:20 pm on Thursday.
I do not follow infirmation, so I am in no position to know whether posts have been deleted, or what is going on.
You can discuss your opinions here however, and we welcome everyone to do so. That is, after all, why we exist.

One of the posts about Carr & Farrell -- and I don't know if this one was deleted -- was an anecdote about some C&F lawyers with a particularly ripe approach to settlement negotiations. Atticus posted its contents here on the FB. I can't for the life of me understand why C&F would complain to West about this.

It was deleted. Hey, I saved something for posterity! That it was about farts was simply a bonus.
