Sounds like you don't really want a sedan, then. What about an Audi S4? If you really need four doors. Also, the M3 has a decent trunk, no?

Ahh, yes. But putting little Sevens (er, Seven Jr.'s? Sevenths?) in the trunk is illegal in 48 states.

I see your point. browse on over to bimmerfest.com or roadfly.org. I've seen plenty of discussion of child seats that do or don't fit in M3s and other bimmers. As for rear seat access, well, that's a fair point. But live a little now, and replace spouse's corolla with a sedan when the .7s come.

I believe S4 no longer in production. A4 has 2 models currently - one that's bouncy and one that's hard as a rock. Drove that one too. The quattro was really really fun to drive. We drove the thing as hard as we could - trying to make it slip loose. Could never get it to lose contact with the pavement. Interior is quite nice. Very nice. If not for the fact that the exterior is just soooo yawn, it would be a nice car to have. If you want to try a car that's really really fun to drive - see if you can find a Z3 roadster. Fast. Really fast. Linkage is awesome. Top down summertime fun and you can kick the shit out of any Boxster you see.

The new one is coming "this summer", which probably means this fall.
edited to add:
and, you can read a review of the M3 vs. C32 AMG vs. S4 (euro spec) in Car and Driver

Challenger for the Aztek?
It probably doesn't get their on fugliness, but I've been seeing a lot of these:
What exactly is Honda thinking? Let's take a box. and put it on wheels. and call it "insight" so people will think brain power actually went into the design.

Except it's called an Element -- as in basic. It's for the young people. And like, dude, if you need to change your wetsuit in the car, you can stick your head out the sunroof. And like, you can totally sleep in it 'cause the seats lay down flat! And like, the floor is flat, and not carpeted, and so your mom or girlfriend can sweep the sand from your board or the mud from your bike out of the car, like, with a broom!

Yeah, but even after you've done all that, you're still driving a fucking stupid looking car. Element or insight--either way.

Yes, as a DC lawyer, I'd be embarrassed to drive the thing, but if I were a surfer chick I might not care. Then again, my life-as-a- surfer-chick fantasy involves a classic T-bird convertible. {Sigh. Another life, perhaps.}
Interesting, though, I don't think Honda's hitting its target demo with this thing -- most of the Element drivers I've seen in the area seem more like the Home Depot set than the surfer/mountain biker/kayaker set. I'm sure it's got a lot of practical applications, e.g., moving large square items from place to place.

You'd care when all your fellow surfer chicks said "dude, your puppies may be robust, but your car is so, like, square."

It *does* have wipe-clean seats, and a washable floor.

Forgive the cereal post, but I want to point out that I enjoyed the way you played with gender terms as well as shapes.

First of all, surfer chicks only drive vintage Corvettes. Or Porsche 914's.
Second, this Honda thing is trying to appeal to the "I'd really like a Land Rover or Hummer, but I'm still working at Applebees" crowd. You know, people who like boxy but can't afford it.

Car, what car? That's the box the Rav 4 is shipped in.
