Oscars

Best part of the evening was Jackman getting pissy with the band, who kept playing over his lines. Rawr!

So she has a more classic number like At Last and it sounds like 20 other singers could have done it. Most of her songs are preprogrammed pop. Every now and then she gets a hold of something that could be more (Naughty Girl is an example) and it gets over engineered and over performed. She needed ten years of playing down and out blues clubs in rotting cities when she was lip synching and hip swivling with Destiny's Child. Just another person selling out what talent they have rather than using it.

the thing I don't get, is how do you know all that. same with coltrane. like if that is true it would seem like all you would be able to say is "i heard her on the radio and didn't like it." I'm not being argumentative, I just don't get how one would know about music one doesn't like.

I find Mike Myers quite funny so I try to see his movies. And you're wondering how I've actually listened to Beyonce?

Ever drive in the car with someone else, and talk about music? Or are you the kind of Dad/Husband/Brother who makes the whole faimly put up with his easy listening station on that ten hour drive to Northern Ontario?

End of rant. The rest of you can go back to listening to/looking at Beyonce. Whatever.

I thought that was part of the bit. Why would they have the shot set up so that you could see the band if it wasn't?

Wow, I'm kind of with Hank on this one. I am not annoyed by Beyonce only because I have almost no knowledge of what she does. When I saw she was on the Oscars, all I could think was that she was in some girl group once, which I now know was Destiny's Child, thanks to GGG's post. I cannot name one song that she of her former group did. All that being said, GGG's criticism of her is probably accurate. But she doesn't bother me, except in a very abstract sort of way. I guess I have probably heard some song of hers in spin class.

I listen to punk. In a car my children listen to their ipods as they cannot possible agree with each other on what to listen to. my wife and I may listen to Howard Stern in the car, but usually she moves it to Coffee house, which I can tolerate, or the Broadway station which I can also handle.

I wasn't trying to be snotty, honest. my son has turned me onto music (Dead Prez) and so has my daughter (MC Chris to name one). but I don't think that I could get to the level of knowledge your post carried if one of them had played me a CD from her.

i bet if I payed the PD at the college radio station at whatever obscure art college is near you to play her a few times you'd have to rewrite the above post and you'd be able to distinguish whether her third or fourth CD is "best."

Any time I've seen her (here's a clip from the Ellen show), she seems funny and down to earth. Not annoying or Diva-ish. A sample of her voice not in a studio recording - from Ellen Show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKsBOn3dNKk Not the greatest voice ever but pretty.

I don't drive with anyone who plays Beyonce. But I went to Youtube and listened to snippets of some videos. Apparently, I know that song "Single Women (Put a Ring On It)." Probably from spin class. I now feel that I have enough concrete knowledge to join in the sentiment that she is annoying. This has been a big day.

Oh, I guess I should amend my opinion. I find her songs annoying. I have no idea about her personality. I'm sure she is a lovely woman. Although I think I saw a little bit of a clip of a video that was actually called Diva. Maybe she was singing about divas in a critical or ironic way. The Put a Ring On It song? Awful. Just awful.

One of my closest friends was her manager for four or five years. Everything I've ever heard about her has been generally positive, though her life seems quite exhausting.
