I've spent a lot of time thinking about whether liberal outrage about the Trump scandals is the flip side of the right wing freak outs over nothing from Obama (and to a lesser degree Clinton). It's not.
It's starts with emoluments, which we can't even adequate assess because he hasn't released his tax returns, and his failure to separate himself in any real way from his business and goes from there.

No. It's yours. You said he was open to prosecution for obstruction of justice. That's a criminal thing.
|
I said he should be concerned that Mueller is investigating the obstruction of justice that Comey described. You are incorrect that the only outcome of a special counsel investigation into criminal behavior is a criminal prosecution. You should not need this explained to you as you lived through the Clinton impeachment.
Quote:
So what he's really engaged in is Obstruction of Possible Impeachment.

No, the investigation that we've seen evidence that he obstructed was of Flynn. The NSA was/is not a potential target of impeachment.

Tell that to the people who have been deported.
ETA: To expand on that, he's been so incompetent as to not be able to do anything outside the executive thus far. But he's doing bad things within the executive power. His justice department is re-upping the war on drugs. It's effectively ending civil rights enforcement. It's not investigating and rolling back remedies on police department. Immigration. That stuff actually matters to people's lives.
And the senate is probably about to stealth pass a health care bill that's going to cost people their lives and/or livelihoods.

If you are an affluent white guy like Sebby, none of that impacts your life, and it tends to fortify your social status because it knocks down a bunch of other people who otherwise be more successful.

Oh, the world hasn't ended? Well then, I most certainly cannot see why everyone is so worked up. Listen, Sebastian, I think you need to be more honest with yourself. You are not a contrarian. You are a Trump apologist. You parrot Fox News talking points, cite to Mike Cernovich, and bend over backwards so far to ignore any possible signs of wrongdoing, you could bite your own ankles. You know it. I know it. Even Not Bob knows it but is too worried about hurting anyone's feelings to be candid with you. The fact that you throw in the occasional "Yeah, sure, Trump is crazy" does not change this fact, even a little bit. It's like there's something that you did that makes you feel really guilty about the whole Trump thing, and I just wanted to let you know, if you want to talk about it I'll be here, and you'll probably feel a lot better if you talk about it. So why don't you talk about it?

Yes, I'm aware, except that he's purported to be outraged by the war on drugs and mass incarceration in the past. So much so that it was pretty far up the list of "important things" that were not trans people's right to exist.

I don't recall any outrage at anything Republicans ever did, just lamenting of the things Obama didn't do.

Re: Mother, mother, mother - there's too many of you crying.
Does anyone think that the point of Julius Caesar is that he had it coming?
eta: Unrelatedly, I guess we have to take our laughs where we can.

No, but I do think the "let's make is the current president" thing is kinda dumb.

No one batted an eye when it was Obama in 2012.

Any dumber than any other effort to give Shakespeare a contemporary staging? That sort of thing always seems contrived to me, this no more so.

Maybe slightly more so just because it seems like there's an implied point but there isn't really. But yes, my objection is to it being contrived and pointless, not offensive.

Interview with the director in the NYT:
Quote:
Is Trump Caesar?
Of course not. Julius Caesar is Julius Caesar. What we are doing is what we try and do in every production, which is make the dramatic stakes as real and powerful for contemporary people as we can, in our time and our place.
