I've never had sateen sheets so don't know about that.

I read an article online saying that the thread counts higher than 300 are counted by two- or three-ply thread rather than one-ply thread so they aren't really higher thread counts than 300.

I'd go at least 200 thread count but the 300 thread count are supposed to be really soft.

Get ones that feel soft to you.

I've had good luck with overstock.com for sheets and bedding. I have some 820-thread count sheets from there. I believe they are sateen sheets. A Bed Bath & Beyond should be in a strip mall near you. I have some king-size Hotel Collection pillowcases that I bought some years ago with the ever-present 20% off coupon. Don't know the thread count, but they're at least 300. Money spent on luxury sheets is money well spent, in my opinion.

when I worked in the domestics department at Federal's department store in a lower middle class rust belt city, percale was the top. if you still lived in Santa Monica there would probably be gold woven things, but where you are now, I'll bet percale is the top.

I don't know about Santa Monica, as my boycott of California's oppressive failure of a political regime keeps me away from there, but I do know the corner office set goes with Charlotte Thomas Bespoke sheets. I just got a few new sets for the New Year, and as my BFF I would be happy to send you one of my used sets......office or home address?

Egyptian pima cotton, 1500 or greater count. The pima wears out terribly fast and rips easily, though, so buy twice as many as you otherwise would.
