Hm. That makes a lot of sense. The only thing of any value to the plot, really, from Phantom Menace is how the Chancellor got himself special powers. There was a tiny bit of political relevance to that at the time the film was released, but I don't think watching the later ones with it having already been accomplished is much of a problem. And the substantial reduction in Jar Jar has to be worth it.

I guess the other thing you lose is the Anakin's innocent possibilities. As that guy notes, he begins to get creepy right away in Attack of the Clones, so some of the sense that it didn't have to be the way it was is lost. But that too is probably worth sacrificing. Almost. No. Jar Jar.

Game changer? Really?

Just watch Star Wars, Empire and Return of the Jedi and ignore the most recent 3. It's the same with the Indiana Jones movies. I ignore all but the first two (although I guess some people like the one with Connery--I don't know why). You're putting too much thought into this. Bad movies are to be ignored unless they are so bad that the cross over into needing to be celebrated.
