Carla fucking up is hardly a surprise though. She probably would have been better off without a sous chef.

I finally watched this last night and was surprised at how easily Carla was led astray by Casey. As soon as Casey suggested the sous vide for the meat and Carla said "I've never cooked anything that way" and then decided to do it anyway, you knew she was toast.

Yeah, Carla's problem was that she wasn't confident enough to do things her way, and if she had, she totally would have kicked both of the bald men's asses.
I seem to recall that Casey had a similar sort of fuck up in her final performance too. She didn't cook with confidence in the finale, and she could have easily kicked Han's ass if she had.

Yes. What an idiot. Sous vide and souffles, neither of which she wanted to do, one that she'd never done -- all at Casey's suggestion.
Though having seen that bikini shot of Casey, she could probably convince me to do stupid things too.

Casey blew it at the end of Season 3, but Hung was always the guy to beat. Casey seemed to have a good touch (and a great rack) -- but if you think she got robbed, think back to the episode where they showed her chopping an onion. Ugh. Hard for me to imagine a Top Chef with such poor basic skills.

I don't necessarily think she got robbed. I think I saw season three over Thanksgiving when they were doing a marathon, and I only saw the last half dozen episodes or so. I missed the onion episode. I thought she was pretty damned good in the shows I'd seen, though, and she seemed to have a fairly good shot at the title. It may be that I was just annoyed with Hung and was hoping someone would take him down a notch.

Hung was incredibly annoying.... but if you saw the episode where he did the Smurf village, he has a sweet side.

I know the whole point of pulis is the dreadlocks but your new puppy looks so darling with just short curly hair.

Crianza went through denial and anger in the first two days, and now she's vacillating between bargaining and depression. Celosa is enamored with Crianza and follows her everywhere, which of course adds to Crianza's irritation. Still, a few times Crianza has initiated play with the puppy, so I think that when they figure out the communication thing, they'll be OK. Zapata is my parents' puli. HE has no problem whatsoever with the puppy. He thinks HE should have a puppy.
She's really, really cute. And unbelievably sweet.

She recently dated (and is still a close friend of) a friend of mine. I see a lot of bikini pictures of her on facebook. Seems like she has a good time in Dallas these days.

Question for Top Chef people: How worked up can you be over who wins and who loses? You can't taste the food they make on these cooking show competitions--unlike PR, where you can see for yourself the quality of the clothes. Granted I've only watched maybe 2 episodes (and I'm not even sure if it was Top Chef or some other cooking challenge show*), but the judges seem to have pretty specific tastes. Hell, they seem to want to show off their knowledge more than they want to taste and rate the food. There were a few dishes I thought looked fantastic that I would have loved to eat that were slammed.
TM
*I saw one where there was a mac and cheese challenge. And some of the judges were like, "I didn't want someone to be too creative with this challenge." What? If that's the case, add it to the rules beforehand. What a stupid thing to say.

Sounds to me like you were watching a food network challenge. Top Chef is much more like project runway (and Top Design) in that the personalities of hte contestants (and the judges) are developed enough to make it compelling. Yeah, you can't taste the food, but you can see what they did and how it looks, and you get the feedback of the judges, but it is really about the drama.

That's obviously an issue -- you can't taste the food yourself. You can see, sometimes, what looks good. You can evaluate the reaction of the tasters (which is sometimes a broader group than the judges.) And sometimes there's a technique or a flavor combination that's just really striking. But beyond that -- it's not like you can say "no, the food really wasn't over-salted."
Also, you only get a snippet of the judges' discussion. Often it seems like they pick the wrong person (as loser, and sometimes as winner) based on the comments about that person -- but that's also a function of how they edit the judges' commentary, and to some extent probably intentional in order to maximize the surprise of the ending.
This is why the only reality show that makes any sense at all is Ultimate Fighter.
All that said, there's a lot of cooking shows that suck, and give you no context. I think this one's a little better than those.
