I've never done one like this and it seems like there would be a lot of strategy involved. You really have to study who's in what bracket and upsets are (obviously) rewarded.

Not saying we should do this (especially since scoring would be a bitch), but I thought it was cool enough to share. Anyone else participate in a non-traditional bracket system?

Yes. We do a NCAA stock exchange every year (run by, who else, a tax attorney). Everyone gets 100 shares to place on any team in any amount and then once everyone has allotted their shares, percentage ownerships are calculated based on total investment in each team. Each round, the amount paid to investors in winning teams (as divided based on their percentage ownership) goes up. I've been doing it for close to 10 years and I always seems to finish middle of the pack, so clearly my somewhat (but not totally) diversified strategy is not working. Mr. Man tends to finish towards the bottom every year with his less diversified strategy. Winners seem to either have a lot on certain strategic teams or, in big upset years, are really really diversified.

ETA: It is somewhat important to know the personalities who participate every year, because school allegiances tend to screw with investment strategies, as the Kansas alum will always drive that team's shares value down and there are lots of Texas folks playing too. Smattering of Big Ten and ACC fans too. This is where the overthinking things when investing part always bites me.

I'll look around for alternatives to the ESPN/standard one, unless someone else is going to step up to do the scoring. When I ran a bracket at my firm years ago, we did have bonus points for picking low seeds (e.g., 2x the usual points if you picked an 12-14 seed, and 3x the points for a 15 or 16).

I like just doing the normal brackets for our lawtalkers pool. I'm easy like that.

for a sock of your limited ability, perhaps you should stick to your standard posting style of somehow implying something sexual deviant about someone else, you seem to have a well spring of ideas there.

I hereby declare the cruller the worst of all possible doughnuts. Awful.

Churros are not doughnuts but are delicious and not awful.

That is all.

My deal with Hank obliges me to impute something sexual based on your post. I don't think it's deviant though. You like what you like, what do I care?

I enjoy staying in my comfort zone. That is why I call it my "comfort zone."

I hear that Hank's inartful technique is more than made for by his enthusiasm. True?

Depends. Are we still speaking metaphorically?
