Ebert

In all the effusive praise of his skill as a critic, and how he benefited cinema, etc., too many articles miss how funny the guy could be. This one doesn't.

I've marked the deaths of Chavez, Ebert and Thatcher and I note that Fugee had all three and is now in the lead. I could have sworn I had Thatcher but totally didn't think I had Chavez, so I guess that's a wash for ncs.

Another one!

Just got a Variety Breaking News Alert that Annette Funicello died at 70. Not on the site yet, but I'll add a link when it is...

And I'm back in the game. I can't believe I took Thatcher off my list this year.

as we collectively get older I wonder if the fun of a DP will turn to angst. ncs, do you have any stats, or anecdotal evidence, of whether people drop out of the game as they approach, say, 60?

I have seen the moment of my greatness flicker,
And I have seen the eternal Footman hold my coat, and snicker,
And in short, I was afraid.

Based on my annual picks, who tend to hang stubbornly on well into their 90s, I have a good 30 years or so before angst sets in.

If I hadn't taken Annette off my list a few years ago, I'd really be rolling!

Does he make a sound?

Pat Summerall Finally Kicks It

82 years old. I used to love watching "This Week in the NFL" on Sunday mornings with Pat and Tom Brookshier showing those great NFL Films highlights, with the stentorian voice-overs from John Faccenda. Considering Pat's legendary love of the bottle (he was on his second liver), he lasted pretty long. R.I.P.

Dude, keep to your schtick - Not Bob has Prufrockian Angst ("and how!" bad-dum-dump!) You have the Merovingian Dynasty, zoning and land use, and authoritarian apologetics.
