- There are private messages flying around the Internet, some allegedly from key White House staff, some quoting Vice President Cheney replicating his famous admonition to Sen. Leahy, only this time aimed at political director Karl Rove, and spin-meister Karen Hughes. While perhaps apocraphyl, the reported conversations seem symptomatic of a growing malaise at the top levels of the White House, as today's numbers blend into tonight.

I'm now suddenly curious as to how I might be shocked.

Though I'm not claiming who is going to win, I wouldn't get too excited over these rumors, given that Bush is crushing Kerry in Florida with 25% reporting.

For those of us rare visitors to the Politics board, what is that famous admonition? And how would these PMs become public?

Cheney told Leahy to go fuck himself. On the floor of the Senate. (That's where he said it, not where Leahy was supposed to perform the anatomically impossible feat, as I understand it.)
I can't speak to the kind of PM security used by high-ranking Republicans, but I can imagine that sharing these sorts of communications can be a substitute for currency inside the Beltway.

They predict (not sure how) a 2-1 Bush edge in absentee ballots equal to about a 155K net lead.

For Slave
I spent about a half an hour on Sunday night and another 10 minutes on the phone just now trying to convince my 20 yr old nephew that he should vote even though he is more likely to vote for Bush than Kerry given the one-issue litmus test that most of the Fugee Family follows. (I congratulated my 18 yr old niece for voting in her first election, even though I know she voted for Bush.)
His apathy disturbs me. I don't understand how anyone can decide not to vote.

I'm guessing that Miami hasn't reported in yet. Then again, neither has the pan handle.

Allegheny County has extended its deadline an hour and a half (to 9:30) because of the long lines.
