I think people who don't cheat have recognized that "cheating" is essentially saying "I'm done with this relationship." So you may as well either not cheat (if you want a healthy relationship) or break up (if you don't). Some people have always known this. Some people need to learn the lesson (by either cheating and losing someone, or being cheated on and feeling the pain). Some people - those who continue to cheat - probably should never pretend to want a relationship.

I started to say something more about how people aren't built for monogamy and how I think "cheating" is both overblown and over-confessed, but I couldn't quite articulate it.

I got nothing on that.

Although I did screw the 16 yr old (the one I dated my freshman year in college - she might have been 17 by that time) in the top bunk of my freshman dorm at the same time my buddy screwed her friend in the bottom bunk.

I know people who'd never cheat, but partake of hand jobs at massage parlors. No intimacy. Not even as personal as a hooker. Just a guy paying some poor girl to whack him off rotely, as though she were sanding a bannister.

I tend to think it's cheating, but I can see that argument. Every time the debate comes up, the defense is, "If a robot jacked me off, would that be cheating?" And I have to say no to that.
