To be fair to our soccer-loving sisters and brothers on the FB, this particular story reminded me of the hockey play-offs. Why? Because the GM of the Lightning (hockey in Florida? Absurd!), in his capacity as GM of Team Canada left Marty St. Louis off of the Canadian Olympic hockey team - for the second time. This bit of stupidity led to Marty demanding a trade and being moved to the Rangers just in time for their playoff run.

Apropos of nothing, his Ranger teammate (and former Lightning teammate from the Bolts' Cup-winning season) Brad Richards* seems to have grown a great playoff beard. Looks like young a Obi Wan Kenobi from the Star Wars prequels.

*St. Louis and Richards have also each won my favorite trophy, the Lady Byng (awarded for "gentlemanly play combined with a high standard of playing ability").

I was there, and believe those two rose to the occasion because they are used to playing in frozen, windswept venues like Candlestick. Brazil is going to be just like that, I'm sure.

I'm not sure Chris Berman sees a difference between "will not host NFL games anymore" and "will be torn down." Since the stadium is paid for, the city is milking it for whatever they can get out of it.

Sounds like some city employees are the ones doing the milking:

If they sold 24,000 tickets last night at $50 each, they grossed $12 million for the one event. Obviously there are some other costs in there, but I would imagine that the city employees had to persuade someone north of them that they could recoup those salaries. Not that they necessarily will, but once you already have a stadium, it makes sense to keep using it.
