He was the most visible Hollywood money in the Proposition 8 case in California. And his IMDB has him pretty active as an actor (mainly tv though), a writer, a director and a producer.

because of your post I learned he is producing LBJ (I assume in Texas and DC), and it stars Woody Harrellson? Hello, Brian Cranston?

Maybe he was unavailable? And maybe Woody will surprise and do a good job. IIRC, Randy Quaid played LBJ in a miniseries or something to positive reviews.
LBJ was such a complicated and interesting man. I've been reading the Caro biographies as they've been released. A flawed man who was so wrong on some things, and so right on others. I'd be very interested to see what Rob Reiner does.

I just read a book called January 1973 about how the end of the Vietnam War, LBJ's death, the first Watergate prosecutions and Roe v Wade all happened in the same month. The parts about LBJ generally, and about his relationship with Nixon, specifically, were quite good.
