Re: Hong Kong
You should take a ferry from Hong Kong Island to Kowloon just to see the city from the harbor.
If you are staying at the Hong Kong Grand, I recommend upgrading to the level where you have access to the free cocktail lounge that has an amazing view of the harbor as well. All the Moet you can drink, nightly. You'll feel improbably rich.
Forty Eight hours is enough time to make a lifelong connection with a tailor. The best ones are in Kowloon. But if you are staying on Hong Kong Island, and you are just looking for a bunch of shirts that can be delivered to your hotel room in 24 to 36 hours, try here: http://lords.hk/. Take a cab to Lords, go up a creaky elevator in an ancient building, past a bunch of junky shops, get measured, pick some swatches, and the shirts will be delivered to your hotel. One advantage of uising this place is that once a year they come to a number of cities in the USA, so if like their work you can order more.
Eat stuff you never would try elsewhere.
The city of Stanley is a little touristy, but there are silk bargains to be had,and it is only about an hour from the main hotel area in the Island.
Enjoy the trip.

I was there in 1986 and again in 2008. It may simply be that I'm older, but the crowds were not so bad in 86 and had become almost unbearable in 2008.
With that in mind, things on the water are a nice break. We took the Star Ferry back and forth (from the city to Kowloon) a few times a day. Same thing, the floating restaurants aren't anything special, but I suggest going.
In 86 one of my favorite travel moments ever happened at a fishing village in what was then the "New Territories" (not sure if that name stuck after the Take over). We took a public bus to its end, then a second to its end, and were in an actual working fishing village. Mostly we were in people's way, but it was cool. Then we ate in a diner with fishermen. they had 1 menu with English (and no prices). Hilarity ensued as we had to bargin for the price of a whole fish.
But in 2008 I couldn't find any mention of the place (i don't remember the name). I fear it's high rises now. i think a lot of what was countryside is now high rise.

In real sports the athlete can kick the coach's ass.

Hmm, I don't know. I think Johan Bruyneel could probably take down either Schleck brother. Maybe both.

I worry for the next generation of Palins. They seem dull-witted enough as is, but the gene pool they've mixed in so far seems to actually be a step down.

One of my "friends" is a guy I haven't seen since hs. He's become very holy- he has a son that just entered the seminary- he has sent me (who he doesn't know anymore) religious messages- he is happily in a state of marital bless under the holy baby jesus with his wife.
This morning on his wall was a picture associated with a video of a woman with largish breasts in a bikini- "Tim E likes the video 'you won't believe how this girl got naked on the beach!'" I mean these holy guys are becoming a cliche- yes? No?

I'll translate:
I used to know this guy. Holier-than-thou type. We are not even friends and he is sending me all these preachy religious messages. But sure enough, he got tricked by Facebook into clicking on a video that said it was a naked chick on a beach, and now everyone who sees his Facebook page knows that he likes to click on nudie videos. Once again, it seems like the ones who are the most in-your-face about being pious and holy in public are the ones most likely to be watching porn, or worse, in private.

Take the ferry, if you do nothing else.

Right. Why is it cool though? I can't articulate it but it is a must do.
