It was a Joker reference. But yes, I think a whole bunch of east coast and midwestern cities are going to get ugly this winter when the businesses eeking by using an outdoor model (sidewalk restaurants, etc.) start shutting down and the covid cases start increasing.

The best check is the referral fee. None of the work, a third of the gain.

I hate being defendant. I'll usually let one of my partners run with those cases. But my work is slow (biggest client is aerospace- would you people get back on airplanes? PLEASE?) so this week I eagerly put together a proposal to handle a big D case.
The sacrifices this disease is making me endure......

I worked for the Nevada Supreme Court for three years, and thereafter did a lot of appellate work for the firm to which I moved. But, other than one guy, I am not in any sort of loop, and he is Nevada only.

I'd imagine (at least in Michigan) that Sup Ct. experience is not really that useful? No commercial cases get to our Sup Ct (although some dick just Petitioned my appeals court win to our State Sup Ct), but he is just trying to delay the trial for 4 months. Ain't going up.

Some defendants, actually many defendants, won't pay unless they know the gun is loaded.

It has changed since I worked there, but you would have been wrong. There was no intermediate court of appeals, so every single appeal, whether a water rights issue, death penalty, divorce, DUI, or even commercial cases went to the Nevada Supreme Court

And they had to take every appeal?

Yes. Statutory right of appeal and no intermediate court of appeal, so yes. When I was there it was about 2000 cases per year. Only 300 or so were chosen for oral argument, and only about 100 published opinions resulted . The remainder were resolved by unpublished order.

Re: Objectively intelligent.
So we've got the Trump trains rolling through this state. A line of a about 50 cars beeping horns circled through the cul de sac today, flags flying. And I'm fairly isolated. Odd target for that sort of thing.
My folks told me they've clogged traffic in their area.
I found it to be dark comedy. But I don't think many neighbors shared that perspective. It seems counterproductive -- a really good way to alienate voters... a really good way to annoy the shit out of people.
The El Camino was to be expected. The 7 Series BMW looked out of place in the mix.

Sometimes I feel Trump might be a bit deranged. Am I crazy?

Yeah, they are doing it everywhere. But so far, peaceful where I am. Don't be scared. It's not like these fat boys are the Jem'hadar.

I saw no reason for fear. They had more of a parade vibe than a menacing affect. Their choice of neighborhood, however, was odd. The houses are spaced pretty far apart, and it’s not like people have huge Biden signs all over their homes. Few votes to get, and few people to upset. If they wanted to “own” some Biden voters, they should have targeted a more densely populated neighborhood.
(I’ve a modified sign in our yard that mixes up the pres and vp candidates from both sides [Biden/Trump, Trump/Harris on alternate sides] as a goof, which may have confused them, but they were driving too fast for me to see their faces.)
