I cried a few times during Up. But I laughed more. It's a great movie.

Kid Movie Experience

I went to Night at the Museum 2 at the cheap theater and was glad I didn't bring the girls to it. It wasn't as good as the first one and i don't think they'd have understood a lot of the historical references. And would have been a little bored. RT was right on about Amy Adams as Amelia Earhart -- she was the best part of the movie. Hank Azaria was much more annoying than I expected.

I took them to see Ice Age 3D. They enjoyed it. I didn't think it was as good as the first one (don't remember the 2nd one enough to compare). I also didn't think they used the 3D effects enough to make it worth while. I think I'd have enjoyed it equally in regular format.

Mad Men.

"It will come out of your allowance."

"I don't have an allowance."

"Then don't break things."

Just wow. So perfect in good ways; also perfect in bad ways. If I'm going to be a flawed father, I want at least to be flawed like Don Draper.

I'm hoping the third kid is an excuse to write the son out- car crash or something- worst actor on the series.

Agree, though if he's gonna buy it, the laws of drama require that it be because of something curable or avoidable in 2009. Maybe acute Red Dye No. 2 poisoning, or electrocution that would have never happened with a properly grounded GFCI outlet.

I wish the kid luck. The best thing about 30 Rock is Dean Winters, and the worst thing about Rescue Me was Dean Winters, which gives hope to terrible actors everywhere.

H1N1 Virus Flu Shots

I would love to hear whether you are getting:

(1) the H1N1 flu shot(s) and/or (2) the seasonal flu shot

...for your children and for yourselves.

I called Vietbabe's doctor and the nurse in charge babbled incoherently on the simple question, seeming to hint that the doc will "probably" go and advise to get the H1N1 shot b/c the CDC says so, but that in fact, the seasonal flu shot is probably the more important one. But...again, she was rambling and I couldn't get a straight answer on what the doctor was actually suggesting (I have a call in to the doctor).

I was set to get Vietbabe -- now seven -- both flu shots (seasonal and H1N1) but then I read reports from Canada yesterday that getting the seasonal increases risk of getting the H1N1 virus even if one has the H1N1 shot. Today, there was a bit of backtrack on that report, so I went back to the original dual plan. But then a friend told me she doesn't ever participate in the first round of a "new vaccine" b/c maybe "all the kinks" haven't been worked out.

So now, I'm perplexed over the whole thing. Vietbabe is healthy but tends to run absurdly high fevers when she is sick (like 106). Back in 2002, I was on this board freaking out about her first spiking episode and you were all so nice to calm me.

Thanks.

It's not the med school, it's that she appears to be a semi-professional plaintiff's doctor.

I always get the seasonal flu shot. I had the flu once and it was the sickest I've ever been. I had a fever of 105 (my normal temp is lower than 98.6 so this was even higher for me) and was flat on my back in bed for a solid week -- and that was with the drugs they give you after you get diagnosed with the flu.

I haven't decided about the H1N1 shot. I'm not in the high risk categories of people they want to be vaccinated first so I have a little while to decide on that one.

I don't know what my sister is going to do about her girls (ages 6 and 9). I'm pretty sure they both got the seasonal flu shot last year.
