It's the second time that Washington has come down to tell Houston how to vote in a really tone deaf manner. Last month, Chuck Schumer came down to endorse a candidate that no one has ever heard of (a "healthcare executive" from Beaumont) to replace Gene Green in the 29th when state senator Sylvia Garcia has picked up pretty much every endorsement in the state, including Gene Green's.

I've suggested that Sylvia remind voters that Chuck Schumer is the reason we do not have a Space Shuttle at the Johnson Space Center, and he has no business telling us what is good for us.

I felt really put out when the Obama folks decided Massachusetts really needed Elizabeth Warren even though she'd barely been out of Cambridge in her time here and we had a lot of good candidates who knew the state well and had served it in many capacities, but that actually worked out in the end and she's done quite well.

But I still get annoyed whenever someone in DC thinks they should direct what happens in local elections, rather than just support what the locals want. Back in my youth when I helped run the state party, we mostly were able to keep them out, but that was in part because we had our own people down there like Ted Kennedy and Paul Kirk keeping them from doing stupid shit up here.

I've sort of gotten the impression that she is the most stabilizing force in the White House. It'll be, er, interesting to see what it's like without her there. Presumably, she has counsel.

One of my favorite columnists at Buzzfeed did a piece a few weeks ago on Hope Hicks that sort of predicted this, though less about Russia and more about becoming the story rather than creating/crafting/guiding the story in the background. Few, if any, tweets.
