It's worse than that. My experience is that it's the mantra of a really bad alcoholic. They're the only ones who don't laugh at the line.

I'm hearing that the whole only-the-president-can-have-the-fbi-investigate is bs, and that the FBI has privately told people a request from McConnell or Grassley would be honored.

Flake showed he is smarter than every other Senator in the room. In a brilliant piece of political theater, he cut the legs out from under the Dems for an "investigation" that will reveal nothing, result in a foregone conclusion, and provide cover for the R Senators who face precarious election odds. Meanwhile, the Dems have made a mean drunk, future Supreme Court Justice even angrier (and Leon's getting larger).

This is my new favorite line of critique--like that asshole wouldn't vote the exact same way (down the line, to the right of Scalia) at every turn as it stands. Now he's mad and he's really going to vote hard right. Bigly. FOH.

Schumer fucked this one up. Got too cute. He should've played this card earlier and just taken Kavanaugh out. By trying to time it as he did, he made a shit salad of the thing.

(I heard this thing was Schumer's baby all the way from a pretty solid D source. And that makes sense, as he's been way out of sight throughout it.)

He's a hack. Always has been. Always will be. Totally beholden to the Federalist Society and the Republican Party, and couldn't care less about, say, the Constitution.

I don't know if that is better or worse than some of the hard core ideologues that are the alternative with the Federalist list.

Schumer has been a TERRIBLE opposition leader.

He is a poster child for term limits.

But, but, but ... Chief Justice Roberts has said ""We don't work as Democrats or as Republicans."

I'd call this a colossally stupid take, except your probably right that the FBI will reveal nothing. Not because there's nothing to reveal, though.

On further reflection, Kavanaugh's admitted partisanship might hurt him on the Court. On close cases, it might marginalize him, a la Thomas. A committed, known vote that will have no power in majority making.

It will weaken the legitimacy of the Court more generally.
