Are you suggesting that John's death would have been less sad if he had spent his working years handling zoning disputes for the local bureaucracy while pulling a paycheck that left him unable to pay for his kids' school?

Maybe you are right, to the extent that choking to death in that situation could be seen as more redundant than tragic.
