I was told with great pride, that Lake City was the birthplace of water skiing. I deduce that its not that big a deal, even for Minnesotans.

This seems like a pretty big deal to me:

Even with this incident, Franken is far from the biggest embarrassment in Congress.
Also, that's map is a badge of pride.

A drive down Highway 61, and past Lake City, is worth doing. Very scenic.
The trouble is finding a worthwhile destination at the end. I guess one could go inland to Rochester or something. Maybe next time you need a tune up at Mayo.

At least know we know what he and his FIL bond over: Abject ignorance.

Why is it always a pyramid? It'd be a lot more impressive it were a really tall, thin rectangle.

This seems mostly right, but ignores the outsize influence of rich donors on GOP legislators. They may not be going to shift their spend to Democrats, but they can fund a primary challenger to unseat an incumbent, so the incumbents are obliged to do what they want.

Why no one criticized HW for joining Carlyle and cashing out I never understood. Probably because that involved an industry the average voter didn't understand.

I don't remember Bill being critiqued for cashing in at all. But maybe I wasn't listening for it as much.

I didn't hear it myself. About him or Gore.
This is a fucking lawyer board. Almost everybody here has taken money from people they don't agree with, sleeps well despite it, and doesn't think those people somehow control them.
Kind of amazing that anyone feels like they're in a position to throw stones. Fuckin' hypocrites.

I think donor influence on politicians is overstated. The bigger impact comes from some of the ideologues who control the media rather than who make direct contributions to individuals. Citizen's United is just the footnote to the demise of the Fairness Doctrine.
It is astonishing how easily people are swayed by a bunch of people who repeat often nonsensical inanities over and over again.

I work to pay the bills. If I had the money that the Clintons and Obamas have, I could be a lot more selective about who I work for. Not that I'm not selective now -- it's a lot easier to be picky when you do all your work for a single client.

Most of the world thinks you and I are in a position to be as selective as we want, and they're right.
