I'm more concerned about ease of use (which would point to an iPod, if she hadn't decided they were too expensive). Suggestions?

Yes. Buy her an ipod.

Have you heard the Ricky Gervais podcasts? I got them for Father's day. I'm listening to the first on my way to work, and 2 good laughs in the 15 minute drive. his webpage describes them as: - The Ricky Gervais Show features Ricky Gervais, Steve Merchant and Karl Pilkington chatting about stuff. Basically each episode is a half-hour or so of audio drivel.

I would think that audio books would seriously suck on a shuffle.

That is because you are an enemy of Surrealism. When the revolution comes, I suggest you maintain a low profile.

I loove Karl Pilkington. Somewhere in the archives of the Podcasts is an audio interview they did with Karl where he talks about his idea for a travel book (release date of 10/10/07). It's Gold, Jerry!

Oh, do they automatically shuffle? Crap. Ty, get her the cheapest thing that doesn't automatically shuffle. If it's a stretch, I will send a check for half.
ETA he did say she's older -- maybe she wouldn't notice?

It can be set to play straight through on a playlist.
But I could imagine that with an audiobook one might want to be able to tell what chapter you're starting at more easily than listening to the first few seconds. The refurb nano seems like the best call--refurb products from apple have a full warranty and generally are regarded as being very high quality.

I am wondering why you italicized "causes." Was that to distinguish the nano from the other ipod models that prevent cancer?

He's mocking my view that Apple products do everything, including cure cancer.
BTW, Hank, has your shuffle enlarged your dick yet?
