.

She had already given notice, but, yes. I was a little intimated by the size and wanted to get a sense of how wide I was going to have to open my mouth before I dove in.

Let's make a bet on it, and then you have a benign pretext. Tell her you will give her a cut (or a glass as we will probably bet wine) if you win.

And Johns Hopkins has never done a study showing that law ranks at the top of more than 100 professions in its rate of depression, at a rate of 4 times the norm.

And the ABA has not done studies detailing rampant job dissatisfaction in the legal profession at rates measurably higher than other professions.

And the American Lawyer didn't recently do a survey showing associate job satisfaction is at a two decade low.

Et al.

Etc. etc.

Nope. You're right. No issues. You win.

Maybe unhappy people go to law school.

Did you hit "Submit Reply" before you got to your advice about potential EEOC claims?

No, I considered the part about giving her a cut to be liquidated damages.

Tyrone Slothrop 10-22-2010 06:47 PM

Until then it's just liquid.

It's not liquidated until she actually drinks it.

I've been skimming the last few days' posts quickly, so I may be wrong, but has Penske actually been responding substantively and relatively seriously? I keep waiting for a John Kerry picture, but I get nothing.

Yes. Too bad there is so much h8 and ad hominem attacks on him. And Hank.

In the spirit of bi-partisans, even Harry Reid thinks Penske is #1!!!

The first pro-HCR propaganda site I've seen*. And they've recruited Jack Black to do their dirty work.

* Then again, I don't read DU, little whatever footballs, or Penske's twitter feed, so YMMV.

He's working off his bar tab by posting semi-coherent and substantive stuff for a while. But I wish I'd bought more expensive champagne, because at this rate it'll be back to Hillary photoshops and unintelligible "funny" acronyms by Monday afternoon.

It's probably more the fact that you wield your experience like it makes you an expert on everything all the time when really you're just butressing your opinion. That's fine, but we get it. You're oh so much more experienced than the losers here stuck in the law. Please tell us (again) all about how you've risen like a Phoenix and escaped the legal world!

None of what you just wrote has anything to do with anything you or I have written. I stipulate to all of that. In fact, I specifically used the word "crap" to describe the profession. The next question is, is it "stupid" to stick with it when you can be an ibanker or Penske instead? My response was, there are many reasons why people stick with it and it seems small-minded to label the universe of those reasons with some idiotic shorthand like, "That's stupid."

Elitists Know Things, Which Is Bad.

Just try telling ordinary folks that what they really want is Sweden.

Quote:

Ariely and Norton found that Americans think they live in a far more equal country than they in fact do. On average, those surveyed estimated that the wealthiest 20percent of Americans own 59 percent of the nation's wealth; in reality the top quintile owns around 84 percent. The respondents further estimated that the poorest 20 percent own 3.7 percent, when in reality they own 0.1 percent.

And when asked to give their ideal distribution, they described, on average, a nation where the wealth distribution looks not like the U.S. but like Sweden, only more so—the wealthiest quintile would control just 32 percent of the wealth, the poorest just over 10 percent. "People dramatically underestimated the extent of wealth inequality in the U.S.," says Ariely. "And they wanted it to be even more equal."

It was my opinion buttressed by experience that was consistent with data showing the same assertions that I was opining on. But the researchers probably based their conclusions on mere unsubstantiated opinion too. Maybe they should consult with you on how to do research that show valid conclusions.

Generally its an awful job, populated with an outsized percentage of arseholes and based on moronic business model (billable hour), but you are obviously happy, so I don't want to rain on your parade.

Actually, I think its stupid to call things or people stupid. Unless they are clinically diagnosed as stupid.
