I was just about to suggest something like this. I have a BlackBerry (and not an iPhone) and every now and then it requires the smartphone equivalent of a cold boot, which I've found can only be accomplished by powering off, pulling out the chip and then putting it back, and then turning the phone back on.

Hank, it shouldn't change any settings. Maybe you should do a back up before you try resetting if you're worried about losing data.

How often do you sync with your computer? Because it should back it up every time you do. As sparkle says, do it again before a reset. (I'm not sure exactly what gets lost, since I haven't tried it. I'm sure google can provide an answer).

Honda Insight? Nowhere as peppy as the Mini, but smaller than a Prius, with the Honda reliability.

Friends have the Honda Fit and it has lots of room for a small car.

Anything BMW-relaated will flat line much more easily and quickly than that. My suggestion: Civic all the way.

I've 160k miles on a 3.0 BMW engine and the car still runs beautifully. 80% highway miles, but still. And its 7 years old. I've seen the same car at my mechanic's with 300k miles on it. BMW stuff will go the long haul. You just have to buy an old engine they've been making for a long time. The Mini has the 325's engine, no? I'd think that would be bulletproof powering a vehicle so light.

It's been years now, but I remember a random post from Weed about his high concept for a feature film, Monkeys v. Bears involving Neo the Crapmaster and his flingable miniature nuclear weapons. It's the kind of thing that sticks with you.

Since then, I've continued to work with the concept, and have enlisted Flinty in providing some gratis acting time. Here's the result - a screencap from Monkeys v. Bears, pre-production (2011).

http://ricks.foreignpolicy.com/files/696894363.jpg

In which Neo has Had. Enough. Of. This. %$#^., and Act III of the script picks up steam quickly.

I'm pretty jazzed about its prospects.

My bad.

ETA: However, weren't BMW's 4 cylinder engines used to power the 3-Series Ms through the mid-90s? I imagine they used some of that tech to create the Mini engine, and if they did, it'd be a damned fine piece of machinery.

I still think Mercs are great. They have a GLK that is smaller and light and kid friendly. Our C is fine. runs like a top. and the gl is too much fire power but it is awesome

I also do not see an i phone 4 in my future the htc evo is quite good and I want.

No it has a 1.6 I4.

One produced jointly with Peugeot.

I'm sure there's some BMW tech in there, but it's not the E30 M3 4-pot engine you're thinking of.

The e39 was the best BMW ever. New ones are more problematics as the number of gadgets increases. The 1.8 used in the 318 was bulletproof, though.

Does this explain why I never got so much as a "thank you" for the advice about neighborhoods? I gotta hold your hand while you call around, or do I gotta dial the phone, too?

Thanks, everyone. The backseat issue is a non-issue for me. I almost never have more than one passenger, and never have Atticus' children, in my car. I would get a two-seater if it weren't for insurance costs, and a need for a place to put my trash.

I am going to test-drive the base and the turbo S this weekend. If I am still not sold on reliability, I may lease for three years and then decide whether to pay the residual or throw it back.

I'm leasing. Residual is crazy high (even compared to BMW's). We were told 63% on S and 66% on base model. I also have no plans to use my backseat. I liked both the base model and the S, but Mr. Man offered to pay the added cost for the S because he'd find that more fun to drive when he borrows my car to try to keep his mileage on his leased car down. Done and done.

Can you arbitrage those miles and pick up 10c per?

Confidential to Ironweed:

All the Bhoys say "hi". Had a blast in the Celtic end (much louder than any Sox game I've been at) and we roundly booed the lone vuvuzela that got smuggled in. As he was awarding the trophy, I thought I heard TC say, "Annual Football at Fenway". If you can arrange for Celtic to be one of the teams every year that would be awesome.
