How this is personal escapes me. But it's unintended from my side.

Perhaps this clarification will depersonalize it on your side: I have no issue with people's preferences and market forces moving us away from cash. I personally rarely use it myself. My criticism is solely directed at efforts to legislate it out of existence, particularly to enhance authorities' oversight and give the fed and banks more power (it is aimed at making it easier to use negative interest rates as a monetary tool).

He also refuses to talk about his religion, taking the position it's a private matter.

I think he'd make a great, sober, sensible President. For these reasons, in this nomination cycle, he's DOA. His only path to the general is stealing it at the convention, which would render him DOA in the general.

(1) No one is legislating cash out of existence. No. One.

(2) Whatever is being done to enhance authorities' oversight is being driven by a desire to stop terrorists. This will continue until the let's-go-soft-on-terror crowd gets elected.

(3) None of this has anything to do with giving the Fed more power. The Fed doesn't want to use the power it has, and would rather Congress used its powers for once.

(4) If you wanted a cashless society, you would make it faster and cheaper to move money from one bank account to another. The banks do not want to invest the money to do this because they don't see upside for themselves, and more importantly because they like making money on the current ways you do this -- i.e., credit and debit cards. Merchants are tired of this, and pushed for Durbin to make debit cheaper, with partial success. For a fun time, ask a merchant why the Fed did this:

Quote:

The Durbin Amendment -- named after Senator Richard Durbin (D., Ill.) -- is part of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which President Obama signed into law in July 2010. The Durbin Amendment placed limits on the interchange fees paid by merchants to large banks to process debit card purchase transactions, while also giving retailers more choice in which network to use to route debit card payments. [Durbin says that the interchange fees for merchants must be reasonable and proportional to the actual cost of the bank.]

The idea of Durbin was to lower debit-purchase-transaction processing costs, so that savings to merchants could be passed to consumers through lower prices.
The Federal Reserve in December 2010 estimated the average debit card interchange fee paid during 2009 was 44 cents, and initially proposed a cap on interchange fees at 12 cents. After the usual comment period, the Fed in June 2011 issued its final ruling, for an interchange fee cap of 21 cents, plus an additional "5 basis points multiplied by the value of the transaction."

Yeah. All the competition between the many banks we have has surely driven down the amount they charge for atm, overdraft, checking, and other fees. Yes, they would surely completely fleece us if there were fewer banks, but the fact that they soak us the way they do with competition leads me to believe that competition wouldn't affect these types of fees very much.

I've seen a bunch of pieces about African "banking" in areas that banks don't even try to service. It's pretty cool.

I think I can help with this one. It is personal because you called him "fucking nuts." I guess technically, you asked him if he was "fucking nuts," but I think the clear implication was there that you believed that he could only harbor his belief system about whatever you were arguing about if he was mentally unstable. In that way, you moved from critiquing the theories he was espousing to critiquing him and, specifically, his sanity. That is why he considered it to be personal. You're welcome!!!!!!!

Kasich is the old fashion Buckley republican: he believes that that good diction and a level voice can effectively hide a neo-fascist position on any issue.

To ready his actual website and statements, he supports repealing ACA, would amend the constitution to undo marriage equality, would ban binding arbitration and strikes for public employees, wants to defund planned parenthood, and tried to do it at a state level....

You're fucking nuts.

Banks compete against each other right now to offer a bundle of services relating to the fact that they're holding your money, and so they hide the real cost in fees that are hard to decipher. Fintech may change this by unbundling these services, allowing competition on a more individual basis.

If elected, there's no way he makes it more than 90 days before his first impeachable action. In fact, I'll administer the Trump Impeachment Board where everyone takes his/her best guess as to the date he's removed from office (bonus points for naming all counts in the soon-to-follow indictment).

This is an example of one of the many times that I am proud to have you as my Imaginary Younger Sister. Well done.

As for President Trump's first offense, I'm going to go with something related to self dealing with one of his business ventures. The supposed foreign policy press conference in DC that became an infomercial for the hotel he is allowing to use his name in what was once an old post office building is the sort of thing I suspect one can't do when one is actually elected.

I'm not sure we are having a linear conversation anymore. If we move to a cashless system, we will be paying fees we wouldn't necessarily pay otherwise. Every argument after that about how low those fees will be because of competition seems to be a full-on tangent.

Well, yes, there is a massive age gap as well. But that's probably less of a deal breaker than the whole sexual orientation thing. Cupid occasionally creates a May/December romance, but he tends not to create quite as many ones between straight dudes and gay womyn.

Today's Daily Dose got on my radar through a different song by the group The Mohawks (kind of a one-off group, I think) called "The Champ." "The Champ" was sampled approximately one million times in hop hop tunes. The video for this other Mohawks cut, "Baby Hold On," illustrates the YouTube trend of digitizing vinyl through video. Often, as is the case here, by actually playing the vinyl as part of the video. I freakin' love the horn riff with the bari sax counterpoint. Plus, I love that the handle of the guy who posted it is jimmytheferret. "Hey, yo, it's Jimmy Da Ferret with a Daily Dose of Funk for youse guyz."
