Sorry if this is boring, but have any of you guys ever tried the Jack Black shaving/skin care products? Apparently they're all the rage. I'm thinking of trying some, but I wanted opinions first.

I think that he used quotes to indicate that he doubted that being raised in a certain area made a person more or less classy (or substitute "cultured" or some other similar identifier). Other than in the minds of the poeple raised in those areas of course.

Not out of fear of your wrath. I could be wrong though.

Speaking of Jack Black, I'm reading High Fidelity right now. Doing the old reverse order see the movie then read the book thing...

They're fine products. I bought them for the OM a couple of years ago, I think. (The bottles are purty.) He seems to prefer anthony logistics shaving cream and origins fire fighter after shave -- it's awesome.

As for skin care, I highly recommend philosophy. It's fairly unscented and has a nice clean feel.

It's shaving cream, why would you pay that kind of money for it? The only people I know who can justify paying stupid amounts of money for shaving products are African-American men who tend to get ingrown hairs.*

Hmmmmm.....let's combine topicality with summer -- how about Elvis (sorry PLF) Costello's "What's So Funny Bout Peace Love and Understanding?"; the Who's version of "Summertime Blues"; Van Morrison's "Moondance"; Bruce Springsteen's "4th of July, Asbury Park"; "Vacation" by the Go-Gos; Meatloaf's "You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth" (aka "Hot Summer Night"); and Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On."

I'm sure that I'll think of some more.

Yeah, as a couple others have said, "classy" is meant to make clear that you mean "someone who thinks about themselves as classy and are therefore clearly mistaken."

Rather as I have taken to using the word "deck" to sarcasticly note the non-coolness of people who won't understand that it's sarcasm.

Well, to tell you the truth it's because I have pretty sensitive skin around my neck that's prone to getting knicks and razor burn. The Gillete shaving gel and aftershave just isn't doing it for me, so it's time to upgrade.

And actually, it's not about the scent. This stuff is unscented. I prefer to go sans cologne.

Mr. Lex insists on using that lime-scented cheapie stuff - you know with the stripes for $1.69 a can? Strangely, it drives the cats away like kitty repellant, but you can't smell it when he's done anyway. Besides - he can then splurge on non-cheapie shampoo.

Read ANY NHL Team program with the players' biographies. I swear 90% of members of the Blackhawks list Hip as their favorite band. Hilarious. Almost creepy. At least it's not Rush...

OK, every time I start scrolling and hit a bunch of mustard yellow with a bunch of brillo over to the right of my screen, i start to break out into hysterical laughter (probably due in part to recent comsumption of copious amounts of chocolate). Thank you Captain Wiseass. :P I actually was working on a Fashion compilation, but only got as far as "My Adidas", "Blue Suede Shoes", "Raspberry Beret" and several songs that have fashion-heavy references like "The Boy from New York City" (and he's cute/in his mohair suit..."), but am still lacking songs that are really all about the accessories.

Any suggestions on this also appreciated. And thanks all for all the great summer song suggestions.

Isn't it pretty much limited to Crest and Colgate? For whatever reason, they both insist on about 50 varieties. Why not try gel if you use paste, or vice versa. Or the sensitive teeth stuff. Or Tom's of Maine (a niche player squeezed out by the 100 varieties of crest and colgate)

Try Tom's of Maine, made from all natural ingredients. They have a variety of flavors, I find the Peppermint Baking Soda to be the mildest.

Toothpaste

TexLex, why don't you just go to a store with a large sample section and pick up a tiny tube of everything they've got? I didn't have a toothpaste problem (that is, it didn't make me any more nauseated than I already was), but I couldn't brush my tongue without gagging. I think the Tom's of Maine suggestion sounded promising. You could always try brushing without paste to get teeth clean, then use something else for breath-freshening. I recently tried the cinnamon Altoids strips and really like them--they dissolve quickly and don't coat your mouth with gummy stuff like some of the others.

tm

P.S. Anyone else tried the limited-edition ginger Altoids? Yum.

Rickie Lee Jones did a cover of "Under the Boardwalk that is one of my quitessential summer favorites. Another is "Set Me Free (Rosalie)" by Los Lobos. The latter can't be beat for rolling down the windows and screaming out the chorus off-key while driving through the neighborhood.
