None of it's any more likely than anything else. It's just that most people can't look out there and admit to themselves, "I don't know, and I won't know."

Everybody (particularly in the US) wants a narrative. Comfort, etc. Some take it in science, some in religion. Personally, I'm fine with ignorance on this. Why drive yourself nuts. Seems, to me at least, time better spent masturbating.

Then the proteins could come to life if struck by lightening, although this would only be a one in a billion chance (I'm making up the numbers, but not the concept). so that by the time you get to there being organisms moving around, it's a trillion to 1 shot, BUT there are 10 trillion stars, so the odds aren't that long.

To me that math says there are other planets with life, or that the odds are in favor (of course every estimate is a crap shoot too ).

One there are organisms, intelligent life doesn't seem a stretch to me, evolution gets you to that.

Mark your calendars folks. I think I agree with every word of that.

The issue to me is that the creator is irrelevant. Perhaps there is one. As you say, we will probably never know.

BUT, the vastness of the universe and the time scales we are talking about does not make the process in any way unlikely. (And that's without getting into multiverse theories) We're talking about minuscule probabilities, but nearly infinite iterations.

I agree 100%.

Please note the date.

I don't disbelieve. I simply haven't seen the evidence. When it comes to the cosmological world, I freely embrace the notion that there is far more I don't know than there is I know. That doesn't mean it isn't there; I just haven't heard anything about anyone finding any.

In the infinite, can there be a miniscule probability?

Sebby makes complete sense to me on this. That's it, there is a creator.

Whoa. Are you a mechanic of quantum?

Man, you have no appreciation for a good creation myth. I personally like the Gods and Demons churning the Ocean of Milk with the Serpent King best. I mean, what tops that?

Do your beliefs rule out that life started something along the lines of what Hank described, but that what he described was, in fact, the design of the Creator?

Hey, smarty pants, if we try on this one, who created the creator, huh?

Whoa! Good one. O.K., dude, check this out: Can God create a rock so heavy that even he can't lift it?

God has heavy equipment and explosives. I believe in an all-combustible God.

Why does the creator have to have a plan, or design? Seems a pretty unfounded assumption to reject out of the hand the notion the creator may have been fucking around and accidentally created life. This might explain why the creator lets all those babies in Africa get AIDS, and your kitten be run over by the neighbor's Winnebago... God's not watching the shop.

It's always an uncaring God, or a loving God, or a vengeful God. Why not an absent-minded God? A God who's the kind of God who'd leave the wash in the machine too long, until it mildewed, because he got caught up in House of Cards. I'd like that God.
