This is, to the best of my knowledge, the list of Eurpoean cities we can get to non-stop in August: Madrid, London, Zurich, Paris, Milan, Rome.

Could likely do South America non-stop.

have you/he been to any or all of these? personal choices? because if those factors don't point to one of these London has to top them.

if it has to be hot. why not portugal and the algarve? fresh fish and breezy balmy lovely weather and I am sure you can get a sweet resort compleat with the entire spa and gym for reasonable. and side trips. to Spain. granted italy has better food and wine but....fresh fish and decent wine on the beach is yummy

london the food is bad and the weather sketchy

We've both been to London and I've been to Paris.

London doesn't seem very romantic...

vienna is and connections are really simple-

we went to Paris on our honeymoon, because "it is romantic." other than everyone says it, I'm not sure what that means. anybody with thoughts of why Paris is "romantic?" I really hav enever enjoyed my time there it seems standoffish, and too much hassle to really be conductive to relaxing or romance.

The places that are easy to get to from here would just suck in August.

So, we're thinking Paris, Milan, or Madrid (all of which we could fly to non-stop from MIA).

Anyone have any alternative ideas, or thoughts on the 3 cities listed above?

Milan is inferior to the other two IMHO. I would choose Paris.

2 on Vienna. -2 on Paris. However, I've never been to Paris with an SO. Paris is fantastic if you avoid the major tourist areas.

What do you want to do on your long weekend? Do you want to run around and see things or just stay in a nice hotel, relax and enjoy some alone time?

If you go to London can you get an easy transfer flight to Scotland (very romantic) or the Lakes Region or Cotswolds?

Scandinavia would be nice -- cooler and longer days still. If not for the whole volcano deal, Iceland would be cool (literally and figuratively).

Of the places you listed, Zurich sounds nice for August.

Why not Zurich? You can eat Teuscher champagne truffles at the source and take in a beautiful Alpine lake.

Teuscher is awesome. and la maison du choclat. and newhaus.

well. everyone insists on costa rica as being lush and beautiful.

in this weather the only thing that looks keeps cool is a sheath dress.

I am not sure whether to go with "Obama's Krakatoa" or "The Pinko Pompeii" for that one in my blog posts.
