It is your mediocre word skills that really cost you here. It's hard to respect someone after they set you up for an easy triple word.

YOu can't do this with the native iPhone phone app, but you probably can with Skype or Google Voice (I haven't tried). Of course, holding the iPad up to your ear will get tiring quickly.

For reasons long and complex, I'm very happy that iPhone has speakerphone.

Thx for letting me know not easily done. 2iphones, 1number?

Why do you want your iPad to function as a phone? For what purpose?

I want to have the ipad live in the kitchen area for recipes to be on big screen. I want phone to live kinda at the other end of the living space. Have no land line, so to buzz up want phone with same number as iPhone to have in kitchen, but want iPhone where it's easy to take with. Sadly, walking not so very far is painful and can be kinda complex.

Not that anyone needed to know any of that to answer the question. But, apparently you like to know. I like the speakerphone because I have lost a little bit of hearing in my right ear and prefer to be able to keep my right arm kinda sheltered as it is always cold. And I tend to drop things kinda frequently, but especially on my left side, which is pretty uncoordinated so idkindabe concerned about poking eye or whatever if was bringing phone to left ear with left hand.

The myriad new joys of my life. OTOH, I'm not at a desk all day.

Same deal -- skype or google voice should work. You can also configure google voice to ring at two numbers, so you could just use the google voice number for the entry buzzer.

I think you can use google voice with an ipod touch, which is cheaper than an iPhone, and might be just fine for your purposes if you leave it in your house with a wifi connection.

Thx. I think in the same room/10 meters/microwave interferes won't work. There are no doors but would be a sturdy, thick wall in the line of signal.

Oh, wait, maybe I could put the base unit in the area I want to leave the iPhone in.

the cool thing is to not be available for a call. I'd leave my one phone in whatever room you aren't in then call back.... in like three days. Then bank the adoration you'll attract/

We have a phone set very similar to this one, with five handsets throughout the house. It doesn't create or suffer from interference with anything else (microwave, wifi, whatever) that I can tell. I do remember reading about the iPhone coordination features, but have never cared enough to set it up.

Is it attached to landline or to another cell phone that is other than Apple?

For Slave, if You're Lurking

See the Crowes on this tour. (Not that you wouldn't anyway, but make a point of it.) I saw them last night. They're playing like a band possessed. The new guitarist is awesome (better than Luther), and the covers/medleys are amazing. All the tunes are being reworked with a heavier angle, and the interpolating is beyond eclectic... Almost random, but it works. Throwing a cover of Deep Purple's "Hush" into a twenty minute jam of "Thorn in My Pride" isn't an easy segue.

They blew the doors off the place.
