I don't think so, because a prosecutor who wanted to buck Trump to bring the case (hello, unitary executive) would have to prove a quid pro quo, and that seems pretty unlikely. But you will have continued stories like that ones this week that make Jared look corrupt, which will weaken the Trump administration in various ways. There are clearly people in the executive branch happy to leak to undermine Jared, so these stories will keep coming.

Question.

Who is stupid enough to say they're going to rip up a subpoena on live television?

These people are fucking crazy.

I just had a prominent lawyer from a major law firm complain about the deal he got on stock when he was counsel for the company.

This is why he's no longer counsel for the company.

I didn't really get the Susan McDougal vibe off of him. I can't see any of these idiots voluntarily spending 15 months in jail for this cause.

I forgot about her. She was awesome.

And her husband was the Roger Stone of that saga. Bad suits, couldn't-give-a-shit comments to the media...

And the obligatory comment that must be offered in any discussion of Whitewater: Fuck Ken Starr.

I assumed he was posturing to increase perceptions of his importance, or to audition for work in the White House. But not sure either of those hold, and I don't understand why he booked himself on every TV program in the US yesterday afternoon.

Smart people don't talk to feds.

https://chiefexecutive.net/knock-and...your-doorstep/

Me, I am taking the 5th if a fed asks me what time it is. EVERY big fed case starts with a witness innocently talking to the feds, violating 1001 and being a pawn.

https://reason.com/archives/2018/02/...-to-the-feds-a

Consider George Papadopoulos. The special counsel secured his guilty plea not for improper contact with the Russians but for lying about that contact to the FBI. Consider Michael Flynn. He too pled guilty not to unlawful contact with Russians but to lying to the FBI about that contact. Consider Scooter Libby, or Martha Stewart, or Dennis Hastert, or James Cartwright, all taken down by the feds not for their alleged original misconduct but for lying about it. Even when catching someone in a lie isn't enough to force them to plead guilty, it can add charges to a case. Consider Paul Manafort and Richard Gates, charged not just with substantive crimes but with lying to the FBI about them.

When I was a fed, I spent a lot of time calling people up and asking them to talk to us voluntarily. None of them ever got in trouble.

Depends on the Fed and what they're up to, even in your former offices. Some of y'all I'll let a client talk to, and others won't talk without assurances.

But that dude was talking about not providing responsive documents that he was essentially admitting existed. That's not going to work.

Ah, Nevada. You never fail to disappoint.
Inside this link, a Nevada Court of Appeal judge spends 17 pages on a dissent involving standing. The case is unpublished and not citeable.

It's sad to see so many judges so invested in pronouncing that they don't have the power to adjudicate disputes brought before them.

Thanks a bunch, jackass. This advice is approximately 45 years too late to be of any help to me. The advice I need now is how to dig myself out of a 45 year hole of doing things I shouldn't be doing and then lying about it. Hit me up on the DM when you have that one figured out.

I spoke to them once. But I wasn't a target.

They wanted info on something. Thankfully, I knew nothing. Took ten minutes.

But if you are a possible target, or have something to hide, as DeNiro said, "don't rat on your friends, and always shut your mouth."

You haven't just given up and started saying, "Yeah, I did it. Fuck it. What can I say?"

I mean, this won't work with the Big Sins. But it works with the small ones. It also sets the bar appropriately. When people expect dysfunction, they don't hound you about it so much.
