The D party is really just as much of a disappointment and embarassment as the R party. No wonder they feel no shame about associating with Robert Byrd. :(

Dude, you just reposted a denial of a rumor. The original "story" was bullshit - politician denies rumor. How is this a story? Some one makes shit up and then the denial of that shit is a story? I blame you for my lost 15 seconds. I might have spent that time searching for naked nuns.

Intellectual consistency isn't her thing, unless the double negative counts.

What's amazing is that she needs to write crib notes on her hand that are so vacuous. "Answer the question"? "Lift American spirits"? Those are hardly technical details or quotes that she should have trouble with. This is on a par with when Ronald Reagan needed Nancy to tip him off with the answer to a question -- and the answer was just "We're doing everything we can."

I think she combines all of Reagan's worst features with all of Bill O'Reilley's.

Exactly. And the fact that she is so stupid that she didn't figure it might make more sense to carry a notepad out with her that she could glance at than to write her notes on her hand and then show them to everyone in the room during her speech is quite simply amazing! She is utterly fascinating in that she does these things and says the things she says and thinks she should be in a position to hold any kind of office at all.

With a dash of Limbaugh (who is pretty much all bad anyways) thrown in.

But she doesn't have any of either Bush or McCain, so I'd say she the ideal R to run in 2012.

I normally don't respond twice to one post -- but since you edited this one to take out the "Republican" qualifier, it's not really the same post.

Without getting into whether Reagan was great or disastrous or a bit of both, I would only ask -- why would my statement, which was comparing Palin to what was obviously one of Reagan's worst moments, lead you to make this statement?

If you said "Obama is running huge deficits," I would not respond with "you mean you are going to like him as much as you do Reagan?" If you said "Sanford likes to fuck women other than his wife," I would not respond with "You mean you think he could become the best President since FDR and bring us 8 years of peace and prosperity, and a balanced budget, like Clinton did?"

Similarly, my pointing out when Palin looks as sharp as Reagan when he was at his most doddering (as opposed to the times when he was sharp, and charming, and even willing to be bipartisan), should not lead you to respond as you did -- anymore than you should think that Wonk would be a great Republican President just because he needs a colonoscopy.

Her comment about how Obama should "play the war card," as in going to war with Iran, to appease hawks, in order to bolster his re-election chances was amazing.

It's almost like the press ignored it because it was so nuts nobody knows how to deal with it. Really... That's akin to someone making a claim so self-contradictory and absurd against your client that you can't figure out where to start cross because every angle's in your favor.

Look it up. I'm not kidding. She's fucking unhinged. And I stand by my earlier comments: she's unlearned, but not clinically dumb. She knows she can get away with anything, and she is.

I didn't actually read the story, just the headline at Drudge, which indicated he was resigning. Me scusa. :o

The lift american spirits thing sounds more like a reminder of the tone to keep. a positive reinforcement mantra thing. I used to do the same thing when I raced IM. One year I wrote the phrase "Grit in the teeth and bile in the mouth makes the taste of victoury that much sweeter" on my left forearm with a sharpie. When the going got tough I used that writing to remind me of what lay ahead. I qualified for the World Championships that race. When you play at the level that Sarah and I do, you understand how helpful these little motivational tools can be; although I realise its hard to grasp for the folk in more pedestrian arenas and the dunces in the MSM. No offence.

I'm sure a lot of us would say that Palin is a major reason why they won't and/or didn't vote GOP in 2008, but I think the larger problem is that the intellectual machinery that traditionally underpinned conservatism -- a process that generated individual ideas that many of us find persuasive, including me -- now has no theory of governance at all beyond "Let's burn this motherfucker down, Pookie!"

I'm just as receptive as the next guy to taking advantage of a crisis to get things done, but actually causing that crisis to come about (e.g. massive overspending in Generation 1 so that there's no discretionary domestic spending allowed for Generations 2 through Infinity, or bringing foreign conflicts to a head to effectuate favorable regime change) is, even when effective, a morally bankrupt enterprise in which I will not participate.

And the GOP has not given me any candidates that are within my range of motion, though I have quite a bit because I think there are few things on earth as despicable as a complacent Democrat officeholder.

Maybe it's a tattoo. They seem like the kind of thoughts that would be appropriate for atat. They both resonate with truthiness.

So you need to look at your palm periodically to remind yourself to "use socks" and "spew hate at Democrats"?

Huh. I thought the "gosh, we're swell" tone came naturally to Sarah.
