Just to throw another name out there, but Gary Larson was on Morning Edition this morning talking about his new Far Side Anthology (available at Amazon for less than a hundred bucks...), and you can check out the interview here.

SD has lost all credibility as far as I'm concerned.

Particularly, that he gave one chick a necklace entirely because she was the first one he heard say "thank you," and regretting that he had given a necklace to a woman who DIDN'T say thank you for it.

How funny were the womens' reactions to his saying grace?

Is anyone else struck by the quality of the blue of a lot of the womens' eyes? I am beginning to think of it as a "non-American" thing to have eyes in the flat, opaque, bright, unmixed sky blue that seems to show up on the swedes, Dutch and some of the czechs. (Maybe up in Bilmore-dom all the Svens and Ollies have it, but I sure haven't seen it anywhere else I've been.) Maybe it is just the way they are lighting shots, but it was sort of freaking me out. National inbreeding can be an interesting thing, I guess.

Sure, every person is a geek in some sense (I'm a huge music geek), but I guess in some sense, I may not be quite as much a geek as some folks. This may hit the nail on the head as to why I hate this job so much. I feel like a lot of the people I work with and I have so little in common. Maybe this is an epiphany.

Egads. That sounds painful. However, when my boys sometimes pull or pinch their wieners, it looks to me as though they're hurting themselves and makes me kind of wince, but my husband assures me it doesn't hurt.

Still, that sounds painful. And thank you for the detailed description -- genital origami indeed.

Do you want to know what I had for lunch? Subway. Six inch. Grilled chicken, with lettuce, tomato and pickle. No mayo because that is gross. Oh yeah -- the bread was parmesan oregano and it was warm from the oven. The stamp allowed me to fill my card so my next sammy is free. Also enjoying a diet cherry coke. Not spitting it on my keyboard.

I thought lawyers were cool, LA Law or Atticus Finch style. I never figured I'd be trapped with the chemistry club. Perhaps this is payback for cheating in all my science courses through HS. I recall being told several times "You're a huge disappointment because you refuse to apply yourself to anything but what amuses or entertains you." Upon college graduation, all mom could say was "We should've used this money on the vacation home. You look like you need rehab." Law was the default... it where I landed for being a lazy shiftless bastard who's only talent was lying his way out of trouble.

You're not redeeming yourself by simply acknowledging the genius of Gary Larson. Everyone with a modocum of intelligence should be able to see that.

Freshmen in college don't know what C&H is. The strip ended when they were ten years old, and they were way too young then to understand it.

The girls on this show have a Eurotrash sex appeal. They drink, swear, make graphic sexual innuendos, and wear clothes that appear designed to be easily removed. It is such a breath of fresh air compeared to the repressed, Junior League types that are chosen for the Bachelor, Cupid, and their ilk.

The new Joe is a complete moron - every bad religious, stereotype idiot from the South who can't even keep a simple story straight, but says "ma'am" a lot so he must be a "gentleman." None of these girls would give him the light of day absent the $$ and TV show aspect. There isn't a Zora in the bunch, and he makes Evan look urbane.

Grace - I think it is probably pretty uniquely American, particularly the aspect of imposing your beliefs on your guests. It has always offended me from the first time it happened to me at some elementary school friend's house, and I thus attribute it to our brand of evangelical Christian assholes.
