Think Sebby. This calculation is irrelevant if the bunker is fully stocked, including with enough heavy weapons to ensure continued enrichment in the post-Apocalyptic libertarian paradise.

Or maybe that was Penske?

Yes. I am ready for the Rapture, Armageddon... all of it. I've a wall of Spam in the basement, 3000 DVDs and I am prepared to grab the bull by the horns, settle down a finally learn to home brew.

(By "burning it down," I mean a severe crisis that causes every sector of our society to re-align itself. Banks down on down to the welfare state. This last crisis passed too easily because so many people decided we had to protect the assets of the retired by preventing creative destruction which would have created a more vibrant economy coming out of the mess. BUT, yes, I'm a hypocrite, because the status quo keeps me fat and happy, so when push came to shove, you're right - I'd side with keeping up this wretched status quo, as appalling as it is.*)

*I'm nothing if not chock full of self-loathing.

Yes, not Penske, Sebby.

And one has to solve a quadratic equation before one can vote (Heinlein).

Naw, dude, you gotta burn it down. That's cool.

At least for an hour or two. Afterward, the theoretical poster might come to miss the presence of public safety and other trifles.

"And what have the Romans given us? Nothing!"

"Well, the roads."

"And public sanitation -- things sure were a mess before that."

I don't think it was in a novel, but in an essay or something. Of course, my Google-fu is failing me.

Ah. I remember the "do military service to vote" (Starship Troopers) and similar stuff. The "solve a quadratic equation to be eligible for office" is a new one on me.

Sort of odd to think that, in Heinlein's view, I was more qualified to hold public office when I was in 11th grade than I am now. It helps explain why, as a pollitical theorist, Heinlein was a great sci-fi writer.

Why? Aren't you saying the same thing? Dumb people shouldn't be allowed to run for office, just in case dumb voters elect them? I'm with you, but I assume there has to be some objective standard to ascertain the dumbness exclusion, no?

the PRC has the strongest IP laws around- they'll fucking kill you for counterfeiting. Of course they selectively enforce. Knock off some Asics by running a graveyard shift at the factory? no probs.

make some phony baloney Beijing olympics shirts? your gallows await!
