Just thinking about some of the stories makes my eyes water. I read it during my vacation and other passengers on the plane kept looking back at me with looks of either concern or annoyance -- apparently they thought I was crying. Naked was not as uproarious. I plan to buy his and Amy's other books, but wouldn't mind a capsule review from the other Sedaris fans on the board. Having heard Sedaris on NPR a couple of times, I would like to buy his books on tape.
I LOVE David Sedaris! Me Talk Pretty is his best work yet, though Santa Land Diaries is a close second (from Holidays on Ice). Some of my favorites: You Can't Kill the Rooster, the one about Easter, and the one about his dad never throwing food away. I laughed so hard at the airport that people kept staring at me like I was a lunatic. I also saw Sedaris on tour in April. He was good, but I think he's funnier in print.

Now THAT'S a good poll.

All Night Long?

Holidays on Ice, although it might be more of a compilations of holiday stories that appeared elsewhere first, is great. The one about working as an elf at Macy is my single favorite of his stories, and also includes a great Amy cameo, where she teaches him some sign language.

Obviously PJ. You must be the only person who doesn't see this coming. No pun intended.

You're right, it is a good poll. So what would TM's bedroom theme song be? My best answer: "Backdoor Man" Alternative: "Ain't Nothin but a Hounddog"

As a lurker of some duration, experience tells me that a poll is always a good time to jump into the fray here.

Mine would be "Hold it now, Hit it" by the Beasty Boys, but I'm kinky like that.

OK, just got back from a 10-day business trip to Osaka. Great food, huge client, lotsa work.

Unfortunately, I've now been told by the partner in charge that the client has been recently moaning and groaning about billing (despite the fact that the company exec VP took five of us out to dinner in the Namba ward of Osaka to the tune of a mere $1100). As such, I've been instructed for my return flight to simply bill the standard 8-hour work day to the client and the remaining 11 hours to the "office".

Does this make sense? Any thoughts? Nice way to kill a lot of easy hours for me.

I'm talking purse, suitcase, suitbag, trunk, carryon - it looked like a catalog. My only thought was - I hope the luggage guys get ahold of this crap and beat hell out of it.
No, wait, they've come up with something even uglier!

It's a white purse with the logos in pink and blue (and maybe some other color). I suppose it's supposed to look summery, but it looks even worse than the dark and light brown combo. I saw some woman on the street carrying it and couldn't stop staring (a la slowing down to look at a car accident.)

Here is a particularly hideous example:

That is never fun (at least not as much fun as snoozing on a plane listening to mp3s for eight hours and billing). I have seen it more doing some project for a big client in some remote locale as a favor or "to get in the door" or to cement some relationship. The work itself is billed but the travel is sometimes purged. Kind of a don't use a firm with an office in that city kind of thing. Fine for the firm, bad for the traveler.
