Maybe it depends on whether they're running a program or programme? Seems that the latter is less rational than the former. I bet they also think that "zed" is the last letter of the alphabet.

Bastards.

Depends upon whether it is rational to believe one has a pivotal role in the return of the Hidden Imam. Whether rational or not, one must then ask whether Iran would act on that belief.

Searching for Psychos

So I Googled the Iran Holocaust Conference, or whatever the hell it's called, to see if there were anything interesting stories about these wackadoos.

The best I found was this prescient tidbit from The Onion.

Given Ahmineminajed's repeated statements about the revealing of the "Hidden Imam" and the impending apocalypse, your's is a fair question.

ETA - apparently, Cletus scooped me.

Heh. NPR will have a story on the thing tonight.

There was an interview on Friday that I thought was interesting with a historian who has been looking at the pre-Israel relationship between Jewish holaucost survivors and Arabs. I thought that this part was interesting:
Quote:

SIEGEL: How do you understand the phenomenon of either Holocaust denial or minimization, that it happened, yeah, but it has no resonance for people today, that you might encounter very often among not just Arab politicians, but literate, educated people in the Arab world?

Mr. SATLOFF: Well, there are really three different types of Holocaust denial. One is the it never happened sort of denial, and that's on the fringe. And at the other end of the fringe is yes it happened, and if only Hitler had finished the job, the world would be better off. And that's also on the fringe.

But in the vast middle, there's this relativism. Yes, Jews suffered, but over time, Kurds have suffered, Rwandans, Cambodians. Lots of people have suffered, and that's just too bad. War is hell. And that is really a political position that many people take, and its main rationale is to de-legitimize the reason for Israel's existence.

Heh.
  • So, how'd that Republican Revolution go?

"It's a mixed bag," said former House speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), the architect of the 1994 revolution. "In a three-year period, we changed things fairly dramatically. We, candidly, then failed."

Translation: things went great while I was in charge, and then failed utterly after I was kicked out for egregious ethical violations. Vote for me for president.

    Attaboy Newt!

Cold War game theorists suggested that we ought to act irrationally so that the USSR would think that we were capable of crazy shit, and back the fuck off. Maybe that's what Ahmeenieminiemoe is doing.

Too late. We already called dibs on this strategy, and having two apparently crazy-shit drivers on the same road makes for fun games of chicken, but only for those not in the car.

No, we shouldn't bomb Iran.

But guess what? It ain't our choice in the end. The Israelis are not going to let that lunatic have The Bomb.

The Iranian people are going to be victims of their own jackass government. I'm bored listening to people talk about when the Iraqis will stand up on their own. I want to know when the 90% of decent Iranians will stand up and flip out of office those cavemen who run their country.

Other than the occassion lovely Persian rug, about the only thing paying for the Iranian's nuclear programme (as well as funding Hezzbollah, Hamas and Iraq Shia militias) is its oil exports.

The mullahs have also let their oil producing infrastructure rapidly deteriorate over the years, choosing to spend money on foreign terror than capital improvements.

If you take out their ability to produce oil, you cut off Iran's nuclear capabilities at the well, literally.
So we should kill all the Chinese, Russians and French? Next idea... An oil embargo isn't going to happen.

The Israelis will find a way to bomb the program's base just enough to push it back a decade or so.

Seems only a couple of administrations ago, this would've been produced by freedom-loving conservative group (assuming that they had mastered flash animation.)

Now? It's the namby-pamby aclu.

God, to think that we've left those pussies to protect our inalienable right to anonymously order a double meat pizza.

Israel & the Spanky Plan

Based upon the news coming out of Gaza today, Israel may not need to engage in Spanky's plan of forced relocation, as the palestinians are doing a fine job in trying to wipe themsleves out. Its looking more and more like open civil war between Hamas and Fatah.

It will be interesting to see if this is good or bad for a "peace process" in the long run.
