Anyone else watch this atrocity last night? Stupid family that has never owned a house turns down $138 for a one in 4 chance at $500K. While I admit that the odds were slightly in their favor if they were risk neutral, I somehow doubt they would have witdrawn $138K from their bank account (had they had it) if they were offered that bet using their own money, WHICH IS WHAT IT IS PEOPLE.

I saw it. They were truly a pack of idiots. And that show has a shorter shelf life than that John McEnroe disaster. I thought there would be a number of different games. But who's going to tune in to watch the same damn game, with the same basic question, over and over again?

Weren't they getting better than 3:1 on their money? That said, I'm with you, that's not enough to risk $138k on the spot.

eta: If it was poker, I'd bet it. But you get to play more than one hand in poker, usually, so over the long run, it's the proper play--unlike this one, which is a one shot deal. I think you'd have to give me an 8:1 payout on a 3:1 1-time only proposition like that for me to consider it. What's your acceptance point?

Why on earth do models insist on going blonde, anyway? She looks much much better as a brunette.

I saw Heidi Klum om a promo for that Bravo show in which the fashion designers compete (hi RT!) and she just didn't look nearly as good with that really BLONDE hair.

Why, bilmore, why?

C'mon, silent models opening silver briefcases isn't exciting enough for you? That whole schtick of Howie Mandel answering the ringing phone from the "banker" wasn't completely riveting????

By the way, what the FUCK happened to Howie Mandel???

I remember this guy making goofy voices and shit:

They were getting $550,575 (the total of the four possibilities) to $138,000, which meant they were getting a return of 25.0647% on a 25% bet. That advantage is de minimis, unless your net worth exceeds a few million.

If the four remaining results has been 300K, 150K, 100K and $575.00, I could see going for it. 2 better results, 1 slightly worse, and 1 much worse, but if you eliminate one of the good results, you would still get a decent offer. But the way it was skewed, no fucking way.

While generally I agree and don't understand why everyone seems to think blondes are hotter just because they are blondes, I think she looks better blonde.

Yeah, actually, my math is off, as I'm not including that $138,000 in the $500,000, and that really reduces the payout. It's more like risking $138k for $362k, right? No wonder I lose at poker.

I didn't see the show, so I don't know what was in the boxes, hehe.
