Otherwise, over time someone could triangulate and figure out who you are. (Search "Transition Defense" on the old, old boards for an example of how people react to that kind of effort). I know I'm not interested in disclosing my identity to some of the people here. I'm sure Hank feels the same way. That said, there are a number of posters I've very much enjoyed meeting and knowing over the years.
