You know me so well.

Would you like some granola? With hemp milk, perhaps?

Homemade hummus.

You need a signature line.

I don't understand why TRU is so disgusting and BRU, while annoying, is relatively clean.

Because babies are new and sweet smelling and bright eyed and gurgly and innocent while children have been around for a while and are dirty and smelly and loud and not usually very helpful.

One Christmas, there was a huge box left until the end addressed to the cat from Santa. I did not touch it, but younger brother, who had much more guile, knew something was up and finally ripped it open. It was atari. (Yes, I am old).

When I was 14, we were unwrapping gifts and my father started yelling at me to go to my room and turn off my stereo, which I had already done. There was a wrapped box ringing, as my parents had installed a private line in my room. (Yes, I am old). Sweetly, my first call was from my grandfather.

Your father yelled at you on Christmas? What a nightmare.

I think you'd like Herta Muller, the most recent Nobelist. I just read Nadirs, a book of short stories, which had a lot of stuff in it about her father.
Better than the Sylvia Plath poem I last offerred you.

My sister wanted a monkey. A real one.

Who doesn't want a monkey?

When i was nine, my parents bought us a three-wheeler. We didn't even ask for it. That made us pretty popular too, and none of us ever got hurt, even though I flipped it at least a half dozen times.

My parents had a lot of kids so I don't think they were that worried about losing one or two.

Oh go fuck yourself with your trampoline and three-wheeler. I'm calling dad right now to let him know he ruined my childhood.

And giraffes? I never really went into TRU as a kid (though I did see the ads). I'm not sure if there were any in my area.

We had the small, crowded, wonderfully-full-of-toys Kay Bee Toys in a strip mall in my town and I'm pretty sure that if a toy wasn't stocked there or at the Target at the area mall, I wasn't getting it.

The only toy I ever really really really wanted for Christmas was a Barbie RV when I was about 7. I got it and then my stupid jerk cousins came a ripped all the stickers off about 6 months after that glorious Christmas Day. So I had the Barbie RV hooptie.

All the other kids liked to play at our house--we had a trampoline, 2 Honda Odysseys, a go-cart, two 50cc motorcycles, two 75 ccs and a lot of other whacked sh!t that I can't recall at the moment. We crashed those things a lot. a lot. And once an Oddyssey ended up in the swimming pool. My parents didn't have any spare children (that I know of) but the two of us survived.

I always ask the biggest audiophile I know for a rec, so ncs, what is Mr. Man using these days?

I've asked him to stop by to answer Ty's question if he has time today, so I'll add this one to his audio question list. The imperfect answer is that he got some made (moulded) for him by the maker of in-ear monitors thanks to his work connections. I have no idea who that maker is or what a set like that would typically run. We both have Etymotic ear buds as well -- I have (an older version of) the model that runs about $100 (ER6 I believe) and he has the model above that. He hasn't really used those since he got the moulded ones though.

My most wanted Christmas toy was a Barbie Friendship, which I got. Lynette from down the street ruined the surprise when she found it hidden in my basement during a round of indoor hide and seek some time after Thanksgiving. It was still a glorious Christmas, though. I think it was the same year I unintentionally ruined my brother's most coveted Christmas gift, a slot car racing set, with his relatively unwanted Christmas gift, a basketball. This event explains so much about our relationship, it's not even funny.

One of my favorite childhood birthday gifts was the Barbie surf van. I had wanted the camper but the surf van turned out to be great, because it wasn't like the one every single other girl on the block already had. I also got a Skipper doll (she of the flat chest and flat hair). She was Jan to Barbie's Marcia.
