You should be given a technical every time you flop. That would at least do away with the egregious ones.

The way "defensive player" lines up perfectly here three times has to involve a what -- 1 in 10,000 chance?

God was I drunk last night. I have to see someone about this. It had to be close to a whole bottle of gin. Cigars made it even worse.

I was afraid to ask anyone, because it semed like I should know what to do, I mean considering I'd gone t law school and all. what to do what to do?

They had car leases in the '70s?

When I did plaintiff-side class actions in my first job, we were taught to write class definitions that excluded the defendants' employees, lawyers, children and pool cleaners. Not because we wanted to save some Biglaw associate from the agony of a conflict of interest, but because it helped avoid an commonality argument when moving for class cert. Sounds to me like you should sue the class rep's lawyer for malpractice.

Flashback. Forgot that part, "excluded from the class are Ctrl C, Ctrl V."

lawyers in the class matters, or all lawyers for all matters? and every lawyer at every firm? I assume this was an early draft. what was your final language? my god atticus, that exclusion has more holes than the Jarlsberg we had last night

Do I ask you to have perfect recall of your first job sucking dick for a piece of rock? No, sir, I do not.

Anybody know?

Where I left my ambition? I think I lost it somewhere around 3 years in at biglaw, such that all I really, truly want to do is retire. Perhaps that is related to not really having any real goals after law school (which is related to not knowing any lawyers before law school). But lately I have keep running I to lawyer friend who remind me of when I was ambitious and wondering where I went off the tracks.

My ambition left just around the time I paid off law school, and then reared its ugly head when childcare expenses started piling up. Please do not take this post as a suggestion to procreate. Thank you.

really, I'm a glutton for punishment because you are so cliqueish and exlusionary to me. **part of that mean streak stems from being unhappy I should know that one....But I am actually a motivated person. I work in biglaw long hours, I work out I'm in law school and I study round the clock and have kids.

I went thru a stage of lethargy. fat, TM met me at the height of that.

you may be younger than I am I'm mid thirties....

but I envision myself to be 50 and still in the same spot. and I freak and get motivated. there are other ways to do it but in simple basic terms

set a goal. being in shape- running a marathon and hit it. set another goal however modest and hit it out of the park, you will find the motivation come back.

you are welcome.

You've been given a chance to do something really ambitious - to get out of a wheel-spinning, oversaturated industry and into something far more lucrative or fulfilling. You're young enough and have background to get into a job where you'll be hiring someone to do your scrivener work.

I say find your ambition and make use of your opportunity.* Even if you make less than you did before just doing what you like, you'll be miles better off. Because once you get settled, or get kids, taking risks gets way trickier. You can easily wake up one day and think, "Shit. I always thought I should have tried to (insert thing you wanted to do), and now it's too late."

(*Don't let it be in entertainment or media. Everybody in that talks big numbers, but they're all alligator arms when it comes to actually putting cash on the table.)

It will never be that. People still call the place where the Sox play "Comiskey" and it hasn't had that name since 2003.

I still call it Pac Bell Park, RBOC consolidation be damned.

True Dat.

As the hardest working associate (at the time) in my firm told me about 10 years ago: "If you really want to do something else, get out now because once you have kids, you're stuck." [He had 4.]

That's not the absolute truth, but its close. Wish I had taken his advice.

Thanks, but I'm set with my vuvuzela iPhone app.

Until I read an article this weekend, I didn't know whether that really annoying buzz was a normal part of soccer games or not.

As irritating as it is for watching/listening to broadcasts, it must be almost intolerable for the spectators -- at least the ones who aren't South African. I'm guessing this will be a factor in future World Cup venue decisions.
