remaking old movies

I don't think anyone would disagree that it's ill advised to remake this film. J-Lo and Ben will not get the kids interested in this story. Half of them wouldn't even be able to tell you where Morocco is let alone anything about the Vichy French or the Resistance.

That said, I was thinking more in terms of the personas of modern movie stars and how they compare to the old movie stars rather than even in terms of pure acting ability.

Sure, I think it would be easy to make the argument that there are far more talented people working in the movies today than in the 30's through 50's, but that the personalities are not as strong overall. I guess what I'm talking about is the difference between a movie actor and a movie star. One is more defintely based upon the power of personality than ability alone. I think the older stars have this all over most other movie actors working today.

Check the IMdB .
They list more than 40 movies with Mr. Butts, though I doubt someone with "butts" in his name does more than anal.

Didn't Bart crank call Moe once asking for Seymour Butts? (along with Hugh Jass and Amanda HugandKiss and others that I forget)

For the female role, how about Diane Lane, Jennifer Connelly, Gwynneth could certainly pull of the emotional reserve, for Americans. Or, Sophie Marceau might be good.
I like your female role suggestions, especially Gwynneth (and it would get her out of the tendancy toward fluff of late). If they went with a Rick as old as Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster could pull it off. How about Cameron Diaz? She's a deceptively good actress who plays too many light parts because they pay better for women. And she's got a bit of quirkiness to her that could add to the part.

Rick is hard, though. Most of your suggestions would overact the part; Mel Gibson could have done a good job 10 to 15 years ago, but the Mel Gibson I've seen of late couldn't. The best honorable lout that's been played in the last ten years is George Clooney in Three Kings, though he's never acted as well in anything else (except maybe Brother, Wherefore Art Thou). Johnny Depp may be getting old enough (with some makeup) and is a hell of an actor with good emotional reserve.

How about a Will Smith/Charlene Theron reprise? They'd each have to step up a level, but I think they could each do it.

So I think there are a lot of actors/actresses who could play these parts, but who could direct it? It's a slow, steady carefully paced movie.

That aren't anal? You gotta problem with "Squirting Anal Allstar 2" (these sequels are rarely as good as the originals, but still)?

Some of the titles in E/O's link are pretty good. I particularly like "knocking on heaven's back door" and "Behind the Sphinc Door". And I'm guessing a certain tech-savy regular has already seen "Dinner Party II: the Buffet."

The remake has to be a joke. If it isn't, then I really hope they do it so they can finally kill both of their careers completely and then we will no longer be subjected to their "acting."

Assuming it must be done, you would have to find actors who could carry off the combination of smoldering sex appeal and emotional reserve -- while being excellent actors.

Plus, they need to have a little bit of age and experience or else the story doesn't make sense.

No remake of Casablanca has to be done. Its like trying to build a Dusenberg today. Why?

Call me a crank, but maybe if people would start making good flicks, people would write better scripts and we wouldn't waste time rehashing old flicks. Remember that remake of Psycho a few years back? Sal Mendes did it frame for frame exactly as Hitchcock did. Why?

Yes. Although Hugh Jass happened to be at the bar at the time and took the call.

I have never liked ANY musical and unfortunately, I've seen a whole bunch (my folks wanted a flaming son, but no number of trips to Broadway would get me singing show tunes).

The worst is Phantom of the Opera. I cringed through the whole thing... but I gotta admit that original singer had a crazy voice.

Second worst is the Sound of Music. I'd rather read every Jane Austen book than watch it again.

Oh, and lets not forget The Song Remains the Same and Tommy. Simply unwatchable.

Too gloopy (official medical term).
Just go get the Lasix and throw your contacts out. The neighsayers who claim you'lll go blind in five years are full of shit. My wife had it about three years ago and she can see like a fucking eagle now.

No, goddammit, it isn't. Would you please quit bringing him up when I'm trying to detox out of that? MJ was fine in it. I just thought Diana Ross was brutally miscast.

I hate remakes. Why don't these clowns just redo "The King and I" with Vin Diesel instead of Yul Brynner, and destroy the film industry once and for all?
Its really too bad Vin Deisel was forced to do Swartznegger reject roles in flicks that look like extended Mountain Dew commercials. In Boiler Room he showed that he actually has some talent.

How bad of a case of fetal alcohol syndrome is required to find XXX entertaining?

This reminds me of one of the funniest moments in my first year of law school -- when Mr. Jass got called on in Criminal Law. Priceless.

Oh, those madcaps memories.

From the neck up, with a haircut (and I like his hair a lot), he could be your dentist Dr. Sidney SHeldon from Syosset Long Island. The confounding part is what nice Jewish boy ACTUALLY (and I dont mean in a fantasy) puts his dick in every shaved puss in Van Nuys? And dont say any one who can, bc I bet even the great Chef wouldnt. (admit it cheffie).

And I cant believe we appear to be the only two people who watch this show on this board. Its got fucking, tits, fake tits, sex toys, women squiriting and greed all in one half hour.
This cat doesn't look like a nice Jewish anything -- he looks like Screech and Joe Millionaire had a love child and it got Jerry Curls.

Shoot it before it breeds.

I wouldnt normally have shotime, but i got one of those free weekend promotions that never stopped running and I got hooked. I also liked the Chris Isaak show, but didnt love it. WOnder if it will be back. And I saw ads for a new show about the life of women who love women. That should be good. The ad showed a clip of the gals talking about how thier galpal had "nipple confidence". WHatever that is.
I'll check it out. I used to watch Queer as folk regularly, and even bought the CD they put out after the first season of songs from the show (my friends and I still break out into Lets Get Soaking Wet occasionally), but it got to melodrama preachy for me so I quit watching. Is it getting better again? When I stopped watching (sometime in season 2), we had learned that all straight people are evil homophobes and all drug use will lead to addiction, death and destitution.

I did love the spoof show Gay as Blazes though. Oh and the sex scenes were often quite good.
