Well, she should get black diamonds on a more classic-looking watch then.

IMVHO.

And then you had to buy the controller, battery, paint, etc. Very expensive toys. At Christmas, he got fucking three of them. I saved up for weeks working my part time job and bought this one:

Even though I had to wait to buy all the rest of the stuff it went with, it was worth every dime. You have to build them, which is a lot of fun by itself. You could switch out the tires for off-road or on-road racing. And I eventually bought a black engine so it would go superfast. And if you think your little car goes fast, buy one of these. I was devastated when someone broke into our apartment and stole it. I would actually buy one now just for the fun of putting it together again. Then I could be the loser who plays with radio controlled cars.

My friend had The Bruiser, which, although huge, looks like a lot more fun than it was.

Don't really care about trains. They were just so cool when I was a kid.

I now know what I must buy the child for Xmas. That's a whole other level of car.

They have helicopters now, too. But I fear one of those wouldn't last more than a day.

Never ever do this. They will always negotiate, even with my favorite, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms.

I had to post it again. It's so pretty.

Also it was on the Today Show this morning, and was the lead "news" item on the Today Show for about two weeks after it happened.

I watched two guys try to fly one in a park in brooklyn. Other than scaring the crap out of some squirrels, they didn't have much success.

Bedat is only about 12 years old. Still Swiss made, though. Owned by Gucci, which, IMO, is a bad sign. How much is this thing? Probably too much for a quartz watch.

I also think the design is too "out there" for an expensive watch, and that you'll eventually get sick of it, or it will go out of style (if it's indeed in style). It looks like a fashion watch to me. I'm sure you can get something very similar that isn't Swiss for a tenth of the price.

Automatics are overrated. My quartz is still accrate at 10 years old. The automatic's been running fast at seven.

My father and his friend Gary got really into RC airplanes and helicopters a couple of years ago.

Until Gary flew one into the bridge of my father's nose.

GET OUT! I did successfully assemble mine. It was very frustrating, but fun at the same time. I had an older neighbor friend who helped me with the really difficult parts. Finishing with extra pieces isn't the most encouraging thing. And after racing it a few times, I realized the hobby guy's recommendation to buy thread-lock was a good one, since I had to buy extra screws for the ones I lost while racing.

I didn't compete with mine, even though Central Park had a track and people (mostly adult, creepy types) raced there. There were maybe five of us in the neighborhood who had cars and we just raced each other. I wanted a Hot Shot so fucking bad (all wheel drive and four wheel steering!), but couldn't afford it. My other friend bought one and I was pissed. But one of the happiest days of my teen life was when we drag raced and my Fox beat his Hot Shot.

Which kind of controller did you have? I had the one with the two sticks. I never liked the one with the wheel and the trigger for the accelerator.

Quartz will always tell better time. It's the engineering in the autos and the fact that they don't require a battery, and, with proper servicing, can last forever, that makes them cool.

I think you need to spend less time watching BnB's dad and more time developing better ice breakers. I'm struggling to recall any paralegals I've known who were R/C enthusiasts.

I saw that episode of Modern Family (which is a great show, contrary to whoever it was here who said it wasn't) too.

He could practically ride inside some of that stuff. Sadly, the Terex truck is discontinued.

ETA: http://www.hobby-zone.com/ - $1200 r/c Jet. I have to imagine if you struck anyone in the nose with that at full throttle, you would wind up facing a manslaughter investigation.
