People were mean to her for a few years before everybody just realized they were being, well, mean.

Well, maybe you choose a director better known for dramas, like Sidney Lumet. In his book, Making Movies, which is worth reading, by the way, he admits that there were technical problems that marred the shooting.

Oh, and I hate musicals...except South Park and Chicago.
