But even the *best* quartz movement is cheap next to nice swiss mechanical movements (auto or not). If you want an accurate timekeeper, buy something japanese.

And after racing it a few times, I realized the hobby guy's recommendation to buy thread-lock was a good one, since I had to buy extra screws for the ones I lost while racing.

I didn't compete with mine, even though Central Park had a track and people (mostly adult, creepy types) raced there. There were maybe five of us in the neighborhood who had cars and we just raced each other. I wanted a Hot Shot so fucking bad (all wheel drive and four wheel steering!), but couldn't afford it. My other friend bought one and I was pissed. But one of the happiest days of my teen life was when we drag raced and my Fox beat his Hot Shot.

Which kind of controller did you have? I had the one with the two sticks. I never liked the one with the wheel and the trigger for the accelerator.

I had the wheel/trigger. Hated it. In fact, I think I blamed it for losing races.

Buddies had RC10s and Frogs. I honestly don't remember which ones were the best (until the Hot Shot came along). Your memory is better than mine.

If I recall, some friends and I were enjoying some illicit park malted beverages at the time and BnB's dad just happened to be there.

Because you keep asking, I hung out with the paralegal at a recent office function and the post function festivities. I commiserated with her about the the handsy first year who had been hanging on her all night, and thus learned about the existence of her boyfriend.

I'm pretty sure that was the first time I said it.

And did you get the sense she is interested in an FWB on the side (dl dl)? Most are at least interested in the pitch (and later the catch, if you play it right, iykwimbianstYd, no offence)

Quartz will always tell better time. It's the engineering in the autos and the fact that they don't require a battery, and, with proper servicing, can last forever, that makes them cool.

As is my duty every time the watch discussion is raised here (like clockwork!), I will now mention that I still love this Tag Heuer that you all tried to talk me out of. I've had it probably 5 years so far and have replaced the battery once. Still working great and the style is so me.

Carry on.

They have helicopters now, too. But I fear one of those wouldn't last more than a day.

Someone had one of those at one of the regional burning man campouts a few years ago. The guy had rigged a camera on to it, and he gave us arial views of our camps. Pretty cool.

I think the electric powered cars are almost all 1/10th scale. There are also companies that make gas powered cars at 1/8th scale. Those fucking things are dangerously fast.

But check out the video for The Fox (which is probably also discontinued): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrcwl...eature=related Guy can't fucking drive, but you get a decent idea of what it can do.

RC10 was the best, even after the Hot Shot. But it wasn't made by Tamiya and it didn't look anywhere near as cool.

This post just got me thinking that there were some very excellent songs written for shows in the 70s and 80s. Off the top of my head, I can think of:

Diff'rent Strokes
Good Times
Facts of Life
One Day at a Time
The Fall Guy

I don't think there is a show out there that has an original song over the credits written for the show. Is there?

Someone in Venice has done the same thing with Venice Beach aerial views. There's a movie I saw that is pretty awesome.
