You believe anything that comes out of a D-I NCAA coach's mouth? Sure, great, he's back for next year, and maybe longer. But do you really think he's not going to continue to listen to inquiries from various teams over the next few years?

All this talk, plus just a tiny sliver of hope and optimism . . .

You read me like a book. I know the Knicks have a very small chance of getting him. But I'm banking on the fact that, while he emulates Jordan, he doesn't want to be forever in his shadow. And I think if he comes to New York, as opposed to Chicago, which is clearly the best fit for him from a basketball perspective, he will be a basketball/sports icon like we've never seen.

fixed that for you.

ETA: Although, yes, there are certainly some iconic benefits to coming to the Knicks that aren't available in Chicago.

Hank: Elite coaches don't think, "Cleveland's sucess is a real crap shoot if Lebron is there and I'm coaching." They believe that they would have won multiple championships by now if they had been there earlier (which probably isn't far from the truth given the fact that Mike Brown is a fucking moron.

Adder: $3 million for the next 20 years vs $6 for the next three? Do you live in a bubble, boy? At the absolute worst, he makes $6 million for the next five years and $3 million for the 15 after that. He could come back and take the MSU job if he washed out in the NBA--hell, he could come back and take 100 NCAA coaching gigs if he washed out in the NBA. But if he's successful, it's $6+ million for the next 20 years.

All this talk has convinced me that Lebron is not coming back to Cleveland. Izzo's stated reasons for staying are the reasons why he shouldn't have been considering it seriously in the first place. But I think he thought Lebron would jump at the chance to play for him, which he did not. So why risk coaching a Lebron-less Cavs crew?

TM

I know it doesn't matter what I think (since I'm not a coach), but I'd rather be a legendary college coach than a pro coach. Every day of the week.

People in Chicago like Phil Jackson, but they don't love him. Bobby Knight is revered in the state of Indiana. I bet some people there were happy when Myles Brand died.

Is one bigger than the other?

The greatest superstar in the history of the world (okay, maybe Ali is up there, too) played in Chicago. I don't think Lebron needs NYC (or Chicago) to become as big as Jordan. He just has to win.

If you're really that good, it doesn't matter where you play.

For the NBA? It'll be bankrupt in five years.

Not a basketball fan, but 2 to the money part. In three years, he could make $18 million if he goes or $9 million if he stays. Why not take the extra $9 million and figure out what to do afterward, if things don't work out in the pros? Go to another school, become a tv commentator, retire, whatever.

Sadly, I still don't understand what this means. Sigh.
