Will someone try this for me and tell me if it works - http://www.nectaressences.com/product.php?id=26 . It is meant to help you get to sleep faster and get a better night’s rest. Something about using plants to stimulate the limbic system (that part of your brain that makes you relax).

I thought you used gin for that.

It is actually for a friend of mine whose sleep problems have become so bad that she is consulting various specialized doctors.

There are some really awesome sleep medicine docs in Palo Alto. My dad used to go to this place, which is somehow or another affiliated with Stanford, for courses when he was studying for his boards in sleep medicine. (He's certified by the American Board of Sleep Medicine, not the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. I can't remember what the difference is.)

My dad is a pulmonologist, but sleep docs can be shrinks, ENTs, maxofacial oral surgeons, family practice docs, or any combo of above. My dad tends to think of sleep docs as being greedy retail docs, because the reimbursement is ridiculously high on sleep studies AND referring to your own sleep lab isn't prohibited by Stark. Lots of sleep docs own their own sleep labs, so have your friend do a little homework on the type of doc she goes to before just getting a sleep study at any random lab she finds.

Yeah, she was down here from Portland to meet with someone extremely specialized, and likely affiliated with that group. An orthomicrobiologist or something like that. They have ruled out apnea and psychiatric reasons. It only started after she stopped nursing her child. She lightly sleeps six or so hours, but never enters the restorative sleep stage, so she feels like ass every day despite "sleeping."

She could just keep nursing. La Leche League says you should do it until the kid is like seven. (There is the awkwardness of having "the only kid who brings his mom to school for lunch," but that beats not sleeping.)

Lavender is supposed to help with sleep but your friend can get some lavender essential oil or some lavender buds to put in a pillow much cheaper than that product.

I also have trouble getting into deep sleep and bought a My Pillow last summer. Not sure how much it's helped but I felt good enough about how I was sleeping to not take them up on the money back guarantee. She could try it out with her savings on getting basic lavender oil rather than the spendy combo. And if it doesn't work, she can go for the refund.

Some (German) carmakers have programs where you can buy your car in Germany, take possession there, and then have it shipped over. Is it any cheaper to do it that way? Are there any advantages over just buying the car in the U.S.?

She has probably already tried all these, but I cycle various herbal/OTC supplements including melatonin, bioactive milk peptides, tryptophan, valerian, hops, kava and GABA. It works (I used to be the world's worst insomniac, but for the past 10 years I have slept regularly thanks to various naturopathic prescriptions and formulations). I offer this just in case she hasn't been down this road yet.

Your last name does not look Italian, even with an "a" added. No offense.:(

The advantage is that you get to go to the land of chocolate!

If the kid thing is awkward, I know a sock who can help her out. :D
