*or was forced to wait.
Actually, prior to my hypothetical, in the prior relationship, we didn't have sex until well past date 4. In retrospect, this was symptomatic of other problems.

Right. People should get the fucking out of the way first.

So, you were averaging one date per year?

OK, then, I don't think so.

Only speaking of my personal experience, the relationship prior to my marriage (seven loooooong years...) started with action on the first "date" (Hank's comment a propos here...). My husband's and my first date (together) culminated in a "See ya!" in the middle of the street as I hopped in a taxi. That really was a "date" by any conventional definition, I suppose (you know, he called to ask me out, I accepted, and then we went to dinner -- pretty standard.)

If the standard for successful is "did the people in the relationship live happily ever after until they died, surrounded by 25 happy content grandchildren and happy content children, and get buried next to each other and spend eternity holding hands" the proportion of yesses is going to be very low. I think a 7-year relationship has to be considered a successful relationship on some level unless the people were both unbeLIEVably fucked up.

Yeah, I shoulda replied to dtb's post. Sue me.

in answer to an earlier question, excessive size would not adversely affect negative feedback, just positive.

Wow. Things really are different in The Center Of The Universe.

My knowledge on this issue is vast and extensive -- I'd say that sometimes the relationships fail and sometimes they succeed. Usually the failure is for reasons other than sex too soon.

If you had not thrown in that "together", I would have been totally confused.

Mrs. dL and I each intended for out first "date" to be a one night stand, and there was therefore much of the sex. Unfortunately for our one night stand plans, we actually liked each other.

Yes, both.

I once dated a guy who was semi-famous enough to get laid anytime. So I made him wait. Until he really wanted to fuck me. Took about 5 weeks.

And then, payback is a bitch. I dated a guy still embroiled with his ex. He didn't want to sleep with me "until that was all settled". Several years later, he married her. I'm still waiting.

On our first date, I told the Mister, "We have absolutely nothing in common and there's clearly no future here. But I think you're really cute and think we should have a fling."

Three months later, he proposed.
