I've been following on-line. I hope most of France is cheering for South Africa at this point.

I like the way I can switch back and forth on footyfire.com

Yesterday, I had the BBC for the audio, and those guys LOVED the Chile-Swiss brawl.

Mexico should be looking for the teapot.

I am not sure I have this right, but I think that, assuming neither France nor Mexico score, if RSA and Uruguary each score one more, I think RSA advances and Mexico is out.

That is correct.

Why have they now gone to more than one match at a time? To avoid a final group match that doesn't matter?

So no team can base its strategy on the result of the other game 3 from the group.

before this change did the swarthy countries abuse this more, or did their perceived lesser intelligence counteract their higher desire to cheat?

Whatever its genesis, you'll note from the link above that the Aryans perfected it.

The ESPN commentators were discussing the phenomenon of diving the other day. They noted the prevalence of this type of play in Italy. They closed by stating that, in Italy, this sort of tactic was called "clever," whereas the English simply called it "cheating."

I rather enjoyed Alexi Lalas's critique of one of the Ivory Coast player's dive after the Brazil game. "If the guy supposedly hit you in the chest, don't hold your head. It's just bad acting." (I think this was the incident that removed Kaka from the game.)

I have noticed on the occasions that I listen to BBC, that the Brits are more put off by it than other broadcasters.

BTW, does anyone actually understand Ally McCoist or was he just brought in for Scottish flair? I can generally tell when he's excited or impressed, but other than that, I haven't a clue what he's saying. I do love hearing him, though.

Over the weekend, one of the announcers of the televised coverage was Scottish. All sporting events should have Scottish announcers with heavy accents. It was fantastic.

Who cares? I understand what he means just through the inflections of his voice.

I love a Scottish accent and usually understand if I'm paying attention (and not just letting the sound go in the background waiting for something exciting to happen).

It seems that Scots have a reputation in England of being canny bastards when it comes to the fitba, see e.g. Sir Alex, and since ESPN apparently came down with a major case of Anglophilia when hiring their commentators I suppose they felt they had to add a Scot. But Ally McCoist, the assistant manager of Rangers F.C., would have been low on my list of vowel-swallowing Glaswegians for all sorts of reasons.
