It’s hard to fathom that We Built This City came from the same (well, same-ish) group that gave us the number one best drug song ever, White Rabbit.
It's much nicer to think of it this way:

If you take a shit band like Starship and add the vocal stylings of Marty Balin AND the enormous talents of Hot Tuna [Jorma Kaukonen, perhaps my favorite guitarist, and Jack Casady], you can get a decent band like Jefferson Airplane.

TM, only you could try to start an argument with me when I'm agreeing with you.

(Apologies to the board for my their/there typo earlier. I usually proof my posts before hitting submit, but I really needed a burrito. That particular grammatical error sets me off, so I was horrified upon reading the typo in quotes.)

c2ed, You shouldn't lose your Bay Area privileges for enjoying a visit to LA. If those who hated LA never visited, then they wouldn't have any "I hate LA so much" stories to tell their friends. If I ever move back to SF, I'd hate to learn that I'd been branded with the mark of Cain for my years down here.

I think you mean the "mark of Caen." (SF Timmy.)

And, in other news: Oh. My. God.

Though Tell Her About it has been going through my head all morning and is quickly climbing the ranks.
Ahh.... Its good to see you back in good form...

You'd get an even better band if you just left Balin out altogether. It's funny how bitter he seems in interviews now. Apparently doesn't think he gets enough credit.

Jorma fucking rules, electric or accoustic.

That was a flat out horrible era for songs. The early to mid-70's with the exception of what certain groups that carried on from the 60's, like the Stones, the Who and the Kinks were doing, was a vast wasteland of overproduced corporate bullshit rock, along with the happy balladeer Jims (Croce and Taylor, though JT was pretty strung out at the time) and some really bad crossover country (Kenny Rogers and Charlie Rich or Convoyyyyy!, anyone?).

I was just a kid, but I remember suffering through what I consider was the death-knell of AM radio. Please don't remind me again.

Upon further review, it also reminds me of perhaps the worst, and certainly the longest song, ever. American Pie (The Day the Music Died) by Don McLean. How anybody could like that piece of shit is beyond me.

Um..... Led... umm... Zeppelin...

Perhaps you have heard of them??

Vacations

For the life of me I can't see why you would want to limit yourself to non-overseas destinations, as, frankly, I don't find many domestic destinations all that interesting.

But you can have fun (of the kind I think you would like) in Jamaica. Negril is good, but I wouldn't venture off the beach.

If I had to name all time favorites, i would be rather predictable:

1. Paris. 'Nough said.

2. London and surrounding area. Anything you could want other than beach.

3. Algarve, Portugal. Beach. Nice beach. And cheap.

4. Southern Italy/Sicily. Nice people. Nice food. Nice sights. Beach if you want it.

5. Prague/Czech Republic. Mid-ages Europe, reasonable prices.

1. Banff - I recall that you do not know how to pronounce this word, but anyway... Very scenic - beautiful place.

2. Montreal - lots of fun and many laid back people. A good place to drink a lot. Old Montreal is quite pretty. If you make any attempt to speak French you will be loved. Quebec City is also very nice. Stay at the Chateau Frontenac. Old Quebec is very charming.

3. Vancouver and area. Good rock-climbing

4. Newfoundland. Crazy fucked up unemployed people who like to drink a lot of something called screech. Very bizarre place and lots of fun. Not a place many people vacation there, but it is interesting.

5. Nova Scotia. Very beautiful and fun if you are into hiking, canoeing kayaking etc.

Ooooh, this is almost my list. Except I haven't been to Vancouver and would add Tremblant (in any season, summers there are really great) to the list. I like Cape Breton in Nova Scotia more than the rest of it. Another great Canadian vacation spot is the Magdalene Islands in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

I don't mind SF but I hate the transplant idiot mentality... I dig LA. Don't know why - I just really like the place.

So has his security. I read an article about this guy who went on a trip with a woman friend of his with the objective of her throwing a pair of panties at Jones in concert. Security intercepted her. And she was, purportedly, a hottie.

Ahhhh.... Hot Fucking Tuna. Good band. Yes, Jourma is a damn fine picker. Forgot about them - I'll have to dust off some of their shit and give it a spin...

Thjanks for the reminder...

It can be pretty good if you can pull it off.
We did this last summer when it was too hard to away for a real vacation.

We tried all these new restaurants and bars, checked out a new museum we hadn't visited, etc.

It was very relaxing.
