The game can be excruciatingly boring when played a certain way, as the first two games of the round-robin round showed, but it doesn't have to be, as today's game showed. This will become more true as each game now is an elimination between the better teams.

Plus what Burger said.

oooh, I hadn't realized. That would be remarkable on many levels. I'd love to see Ghana advance.

Where, based on the odds, Brazil would be waiting.

I'll take a semi-final match with Brazil. Besides, by that point the alternatives are likely to be Spain, Argentina, Portugal, and Netherlands (of course depending on how the groups finish up).

I wonder what the oddsmakers are saying about how far the US may advance.

Nat says the US has a 14.5% chance of winning in a semifinal and a 0.98% chance of winning the cup.

Vincent Chase did look like Pablo.

On Tivo. I did watch the June 17, 1994, one, and several others. Mixed bag. The one on Loyola and Hank Gathers was pretty good. The OJ one (6/17/94) was a bit disjointed because it was *solely* existing media clips with no interviews or narration. For the most part it worked, and I understand that's the film style, but it didn't fully do it for me. I'd forgotten the ridiculous scenes surrounding the chase and his surrender, including the many publicity-whore LA locals chasing him around and mugging for the camera. Amazing to see, even more so with the hindsight of evidence.

He should short the U.S. then at 50-1 offshore.

Interesting to see how those change as the pairings become clear. BTW, I think "semi" means reaching the semifinals, not winning them.

Reporter for gay magazine outs anti-gay pastor by infiltrating a confidential 12-step group for gays trying to be celebate. The dubious ethics of outing aside, it sounds to me like use of "undercover" reportage has gone off the rails.

I'm not sure this is true -- some of the elimination games become deathly boring as both teams seek to avoid mistakes and, if they score a goal, packing it in defensively.

The second and third group games are more open because the teams often have different incentives. One may need a win more than the other, or need goals, so they open up the field, which allows for more countering and open space.

Or not, as I am off to watch the second halves of both 0-0 games right now.

You must be expecting them to become more exciting . . .

I saw that. I did not realize how completely nuts the whole situation was. I thought it was a good show.

With Australia up there seems to be little incentive for Ghana to score as they would surely rather play the US than England.
