I would not be surprised to learn that when he was young some Rabbi had his way with young Harvey, too.

But I made no statement on causation, merely noted the very common correlation.

I find your above description interesting in the amount of equivocation on both counts - "alleged" and the parenthetical on the Weinstein/Argento incident, "statutory" modifying "rape" on the Argento/whatshisname incident. I have no argument with any of them, I just find it interesting that there is so much equivocation on two events where an older powerful show business player was forcing themselves on a younger aspiring actor. I might also note that there was more than twenty years between Weinstein and Argento. I think the equivocation comes because we know these acts are wrong, but the "forced consent" element blurs the categories and provides defenses, at least from a legal perspective.

Pretty sure Sebby can suggest a way to tell us exactly how responsible she was. Because science.

I actually think it may be overdetermined such that the percentages of responsibility we can assign will add up to more than 100%. Remember, some of the blame must rest on Weinstein's mother.

Good luck going there...

Stop before you start. Nothing is “tortured” and you’re always wrong in the Bizarro Universe into which you’re stepping.

I’ll leave it to you because, well, knows-what-should-and-should-not-be-discussed.

Sam Harris wrote a book on free will. It’s awful. Because he’s awful. Because he talked with people who say awful things. Awful, awful, awwwwwful!

Do you dare to eat a peach?

And re Asia, I kind of thought that what Rose McGowan said in the article that Less linked to made sense.

Anyhoo, carry on.

People forget this, but responsibility for civil antitrust actions is often so overdetermined that you end up with 300% blame.

I'd recommend Augustine on Free Will, especially his letters to Pelagius.

Of course -- that's excellent. I am currently reading [something even wonkier, erudite and abstruse].
