You're a buddy of Laura Ingraham?

I wouldn't say buddy. And the one I was actually referring to is the undercover reporter herself. Initials TP.

It looks like the FIFA ref has had about enough of Italian / Slovakian goalkeeper floppery.

3G. Didn't buy the 3Gs, but I've used friends' and the 4 kicks its ass too. The difference is the 4 uses the processor from the ipad, I believe.

Which do we want, Ghana or Serbia?

ETA: Well, guess it's settled then.

I am all-around happy with those results. An African team advances. The US does not have to play Germany, whose disciplined defense always gives us difficulty. And Germany, a team I really like watching play, advances. (It is all about me, of course).

The US is also in a great position in the elimination rounds -- a quadrant that does not include Germany, Brazil, Argentina, England, or any other team rated in the top dozen or so. Ghana's not an easy team, certainly, and they beat the US in 2006 -- but we're better now, and Ghana is worse without Essien.

I am struggling not to get my hopes up.

Still going at 68-68. Sheeh.

And holy crap Slovakia!

ETA: If I get the math right, New Zealand advances if there's a tie, right?

70-68. Does anyone care who won? Does anyone know who was playing?

So long as that Guardian liveblog is kept for prosterity, I don't think so.

Not that it matters now, but no. Italy would have advanced, having the higher total goals scored.

The winner plays a guy who won 16-14 in the final set. If ever a match could top this one, it's the 2d round matchup.

You gotta be fucking kidding me.

One day next month every student at Loyola Law School Los Angeles will awake to a higher grade point average.

But it’s not because they are all working harder.

The school is retroactively inflating its grades, tacking on 0.333 to every grade recorded in the last few years. The goal is to make its students look more attractive in a competitive job market.

In the last two years, at least 10 law schools have deliberately changed their grading systems to make them more lenient. These include law schools like New York University and Georgetown, as well as Golden Gate University and Tulane University, which just announced the change this month. Some recruiters at law firms keep track of these changes and consider them when interviewing, and some do not.

Law schools seem to view higher grades as one way to rescue their students from the tough economic climate — and perhaps more to the point, to protect their own reputations and rankings. Once able to practically guarantee gainful employment to thousands of students every year, the schools are now fielding complaints from more and more unemployed graduates, frequently drowning in student debt.

It's just like WW2. France surrendered early, the USA arrived late, England is left to fight Germany. And Ireland took no part.

the austrians stayed out of the world cup, which frankly would have made WW2 much more contained.

edit- plus Japan made sure South Korea wasn't around by the time the real comp started.

Will the Russians show up for the final and demand inclusion and credit for reaching the finals?
